Hi Shannon, To get the desired look, for the look you are trying to achieve, I would recommend the following based on our twelve years as a Windsor distributor/installer: 1) Windsor Legend double-hung windows with exterior moulding factory applied. This will give you the set-back look you are desiring and still allows the Hardie planks to "dive in" to the side of the window trim. We completed numerous homes, that were a farmhouse architectural typology, in the South Carolina Low Country as well as Savannah, GA area with the Windsor Legend series . 2) Windsor Next Dimension classic series with nail fin and no brickmould attached. You will still need to have the window recessed so it is set back, then have PVC exterior trim applied so the Hardie plank "dives in" to the window trim. If you are using 2 x 4 exterior walls, the builder will have to fur-out the inside of the window wall so the drywall and interior window trim can be applied appropriately. Hope this helps! Patrick

Im assuming you are in the nyc area? Tri state window factory make an ok window i guess but its definitely not up there with the elite windows such as okna, soft lite, or sunrise. Okna Windows are definitely a better window and is on a differenet level than Tri State Windows which is only a mid range type window. Being that the pricing is close, i would hands down choose the okna. The pricing seems good as well. Okna make a very well designed window with some great engineering. A very good looking window. I also agree with Todd, if you want triple pane, argon is a much more economical choice opposed to krypton.

The Okna 700/800 models are some of the most recommended and revered windows on this forum, they would be at the top of my list if they're in your budget and available. Even if they're slightly over, they may be worth it to save up a bit more for them. Other good options are Sunrise, Simonton as you mentioned, & Polaris. I look at a labor warranty and equate that to how good the contractors think their work is. If they only give you a year, they don't expect their work to last much longer than that and don't want to pay for it. I'd be running the other way from those guys. I'd be looking for a minimum of 10 year labor warranty, if not 25 to lifetime. Assuming they're a quality company, if they were fixing mistakes for 25 years on all of their installs, they wouldn't be around long cuz it's hard to make money working for free. (and do yourself a HUGE favor, do not use HD, you don't want their minimum wage guy doing your window install do you?) As always, check reviews and references of your prospective installers, and don't just pick a installer because they're cheaper. Most places are more expensive because they use better quality products, pay better quality installers, and take the time to install it right. A quality installer is equally, if not more important than the quality of the window they're installing.

Very fair pricing Grayson, even for a simple install and few product upgrades. Three good window choices as well, nice work. I'm partial to the Okna in this case as it will have the best U value and air leakage ratings with apples to apples glass, but again, all 3 are good. You might consider putting some more weight on the installation company, that aspect will make or break MANY window replacement projects, especially when you have 3 choices that are somewhat close as you do here. Where are you located? That can determine the recommendation for the glass package as well as a garner a possible referral.
