Blooms...I need blooms....Winter is too long!
Comments (32)Well, I just typed in a thread, accidentally clicked something & it is all gone. If it shows back up when I type this out, don't think I'm crazy. Well, I am, just not this time. Maryl, I love the boulder & the rustic fence, I don't have much in the way of garden interest other than plants. I think I need to do something about that, but not something I'm good at. Brad, I do envy the look of your flower beds, so very neat & tidy. Mine NEVER look that good. I do have lots of perennials stuffed in every nook I can find between daylilies. My effort to slow weeds. It works to an extent, but sometimes looks a bit messy in itself. Plus, weeds grow underneath sometimes & fool me. I like to think I've at least weakened them though :) Cindy, your garden always leaves me in awe. It isn't just the daylilies, but the entire setting is so beautiful, & you have everything placed so nicely. I wish I had your talent. Patty, you have so many daylilies, it must be stunning to be there in person when they are blooming. I spotted several I especially like. Nice Julia! I really like the last garden scene photo. Love that balloon too, makes me feel warmer just looking at it....See MoreA video of how I get my once blooming roses ready for winter
Comments (3)I was just talking with lilyfinch about this the other day. Mostly I deleaf anything with blackspot so disease isn’t living in the soil. I don’t differentiate between rose groups and just do it until I lose my oomph. Who knows if it helps or not but I feel like it is beneficial since we have so much mild wet weather...See MoreWinter blooms for central texas
Comments (3)I am just north of Dripping Springs on Hamilton Pool Rd.. I think the border of 8 a/b goes through my kitchen. We had great blooms on my Salvia madrensis and sleeping Giant Mexican turkscap and pink Turks cap till that damn 20º freeze 2 weeks ago. Hell, I had tomatoes fruiting. The green ones are on my window sills redening up. My aloe was blooming too. That bloom is gone now. My pea blooms got bit too, but I need to put in another crop today. My purple oxalic is thinking about blooming. I did cover my vegetable garden during the freeze and my kale, chard, lettuce, arugala and cabage are colorful with their diffent colored leaves. I do grow a lot of tropicals , bromiliads, aloes, . I roll them in during the freezes or cover them in mild freezes. I have some bromiliad blooming on my porch. This is not Florida. Sorry. Growing here can be difficult due to our soil and water conditions but possible. Weather is changable. It all depends on our winters.one is not like another. We have long stretches of mild weather and then BAMM. We are humbled. What Mindshift says about the changing micro climates is true. I have quite a bit of elevation and that makes me warmer in the beginning of the winter than my neighbor accross the road. Pull up Wunderground personal weather stations during the early morning ( there are many close together where I live) and one can see the differences in their temps. I look at these weather staions all the time because there is a fair amount oif covering that I do. Also drive around up and down over the hills at night and it is amazing the range of temps that my car thermometer says. I have a south facing stone patio with cement pillars and they creat good thermal mass to make a warm winter spot for my aloe collection. I only take them in for the hardest freezes....See MoreBest F daylilies 2023
Comments (28)I love the form and color of Forest God. I hate to hear that about Forever and for Always, the blooms are so pretty. Last year was its 1st bloom season, did not do great but I am pretty sure it rebloomed. I like those pinks, David! Brad, that color on Fiordiligi is so nice. FOREVER REDEEMED looks nice in everyone's pictures. I talk myself out of that one because I have so many of that style. Fire In the Hole, Kay, but my favorite is firecracker Parade. Kate, Flying fox must be so impressive at that size! Fried Green Tomatoes is an impressive grower, isn't it? Mine was 3 years old this year, not sure mine has multiplied quite so well as yours. It has such a long bloom season though, it was a major bud builder this year. Nancy, I have Fiesta Latina here too, and it is a great plant. The only reason I don't post it often, my camera does not capture the color as nice as you see it in person. I agree about Fox Point too, I would have posted that one if I had a picture of it. Debra, Faith That Moves Mountains and Fighting Fire are amazing!...See MoreTiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL
