Tool for Pulling Up Small Trees

Can someone recommend a tree pulling tool. I am fighting a battle with Elaeagnus and J. Priviet. I had cleared the fence row 5 yrs ago and they are back along with wisteria. Need to pull up roots and all.

I bought a tool called an extractigator. It works pretty well, as long as soil is moist. When my clay soil is dry it just breaks them off. But when the ground is moist it’s much better than a shovel. I would buy it again, if you have an issue tree saplings.

in my sand.. i also found in spring.. i could just pull out things .. but by late june or july.. the soil was so hard.. nothing short of digging stuff out worked..

you dont mention your soil type .. nor how big these plants are.. you really arent trying to pull out 4 or 5 year stock.. are you??

i just cut everything flush to teh ground and applied a stump killer immediately.. and im not aware anything ever grew back ..

any time you disturb the soil.. you can activate seeds stored in said soil.. so the beauty of cutting flush.. etc... is no soil disturbance..

i can show you my handy dandy applicator.. if you havent seen it before.. lol ..

i used non diluted round up.. as it is labeled as a stump killer inthis concentration.. or it used to be anyway ...

once you remove all you need to properly apply and maintain mulch to severely retard seed germination. .. and to keep the soil friable so you can pull out new sprouts EVERY SEASON ... you cant do this every 5 years or so...

I have tried many different ways, tools and all. This is how I deal with this problem: Get yourself a nice pair of knee pads and a good pair of gloves. Water the part you want to pull one or two hours before you start weeding. Get down on your hands and knees and pull with your hand. Grab the base of the weeds and pull, giggle and pull. I usually pull the roots out all together. I had tried week hock and small manual tiller, Mantis, weed folk......anything you name. Get down on your hands and knees is the only way. Maybe a small hand suffle might help sometimes.

The small pole saws are nice (Remington etc from Big Box Stores). I found the big advantage of Ã¢ÂÂcutting larger limbs from a distanceÃ¢ÂÂ. I learned some lessons (with luck of not getting hurt) Ã¢ÂÂcutting larger limbs from a distanceÃ¢ÂÂ, which requires more experience and good judgments. I feel the length of use is including an average height also. Working from a distance at the needed angles away to be safe can put a strain on the body due to the sawÃ¢ÂÂs head weight. I doubt you can Ã¢ÂÂStress Safety And Good JudgmentsÃ¢ÂÂ enough or it is too late. Such as: staying a safe distance and angle, staying off ladders and staying out of trees w/o experience. Some will have the quick detachable small chainsaw from the pole, ideal for cutting-up trimmed limbs and firewood up to 10Ã¢ÂÂ dia with ease. This is what the pond look like before I drain to work on it. It should look about the same this summer after I refill it with water. Then this winter I will drain again and do more diging. And sometime I hope to do a lot of stone work on the pond(stone on floor and wall of the pond). Soild stone floor and walls should help keep water very clear. I have cut down the tree that in the water in this picture. There a leak in the wall so the pond did not fill up any higher than this except when raining. This picture show where it is leaking. You can see the main leak on the left side of picture at water level. I have just puled a footing for a concret block wall in that area on the side of the pond. Bon, Don't worry. That wheelbarrow harvest is coming sometime in the next few years. Carol, You took the words right out of my mouth. Larry, I think the older tractors are a lot easier to fix than the newer ones. The newer ones have all those fancy sensors and things and I think they make repairing-it-yourself pretty difficult. We have a friend who is a certified John Deere mechanic and he has worked for JD for over 2 decades. He is truly amazing and can fix absolutely anything that is wrong. Sometimes after other John Deere mechanics have struggled with a problem tractor for a long time without ever getting it fixed, they call him in to troubleshoot the problem and fix it. He is amazing and Tim and I remain in awe of his knowledge, skill and talent. I never realized how many different ways tractors can break down nowadays until we got to know him. He goes and takes courses every year to stay current on the newest technology being used in tractors, their accessories, combines, balers, etc. He could work 24/7 every day of the year and never catch up with the backlog of repairs waiting to be done. I like the really old tractors that are easier to understand and to repair. All the new ones are too fancy. Christina, Mine is a lot like that. I had one like that before I bought the one I have now. The one you have works fine, but mine is oilcloth so it doesn't stain and it wipes clean....and it is a very bright floral print, which is important to me when I am in the garden surrounded by a sea of green foliage. My garden is a jungle.....I am pretty sure that if you stand still and listen quietly on a hot summer afternoon, you can hear the trumpeting of an elephant as it approaches the jungle.....so I needed a bright bucket/organizer that wouldn't blend it too much. Gardener's Supply no longer carries it, so I'm glad I bought mine when I did a few years ago (and I got it when it was on sale, which was just a bonus because I was going to get it anyway). Classic size. I wasn’t sure I could handle the larger one. I get lots of walnut and hickory saplings which are impossible for me to pull unless I catch them when they are tiny, so this tool has been a huge help to getting things out of my flower beds.

I ordered the classic as my 47th Anniverery and Valentines gift from my husband. The suggested gift for 47 is garden or plants although every anniversary gift is outdoor related at our house.

The only time he has balked at the proposed gift I thought I would get was the chain saw I wanted many years ago when I was a 100 lb weakling. He had/has a normal sized one but I couldn't handle the weight of it so I thought a smaller one just for me would be a wonderful idea.... He disagreed and gave me a pole saw.

We have had health issues so I have just been able to maintain for the last few years. Spinal surgeries, rotator cuff x 2 because of a fall that messed up the first surgery, covid ongoing issues, sciatica etc. Getting old is the pits. I did the straight round up on the stumps but ugly agnus just won't die. The past privet jungle area just has so many seeds that keep sprouting so it is a constant issue. I did get a load of tree chippings from the electric people that I am planning to use in that area. The soil is red clay so I must do my pulling during the winter after rains soak the ground. I can't wait for it to get here!
