Comments (40)Merry, if your wallpaper is properly applied you really SHOULD NOT see any seams. I'd defy you to find any in my house--I'm pretty fussy about that, and know the tricks to getting paper and borders to match correctly. whoever said they have swirly plaster and can't use wall paper? My new house had textured plaster applied to the walls. It's GORGEOUS with wall paper over it--has so much depth and character than wall applied over flat plaster (and believe me, I've done both in 37 years of marriage! As to removing wall paper? only time I've ever had a problem with removal was in the living room of our first house--but there were TWELVE layers of wallpaper, one on top of the other, many painted over. it was literally as thick as sheet rock, and there was no way to get moisture down to the lowest leve in one shot. Otherwise, I find it's not that difficult to remove--and I will not ever paint or paper over old paper. As a matter of fact, my bathroom? When I decide to change the wallpaper, which I do every year or two, it's only a morning's work to remove the old, clean the walls and put up the new. I really think many have been scared off wallpaper--it's really easy to deal with. As to trends? Totally agree with whoever said that Stainless, granite and 'no' wallpaper will be out in 5 years. Of course, you'll still be able to buy stainless and granite, but they 'experts' will have everyone convinced that they're old-fashioned. That's how they keep selling us more and more expensive stuff. If they can get only a few people to run out and needlessly replace stuff in their homes, it's extremely profitable for them. And, of course, there's the issue that this sort of proclamation makes people doubt their own ability to make good choices--oops--more work for the professional advisors (decorators, personal shoppers, etc)....See MoreBeadboard wallpaper vs. MDF?
Comments (16)I saw the bead board wall paper yesterday. Infact it had lots of different styles. When walking past it I began to think about the sides of my cabinet and sides of my island and thought...this would be perfect there. So that's what I plan on doing too. I can't wait to see your project finished. Oh and my island has no water and the stove sits in it, no seating in my island. I would probably do the mdf board if i had searing under my island. Same with the side of my cabinet. No water over there either. Love the statement,,really what do you have to loose by trying it. If it gets all mucky in a couple of years..change it...See MoreIs Wallpaper Coming Back In Style?
Comments (46)I would kill to have something papered in one of those Quadrille or Cowan and Tout bamboo trellis style wallpapers. And I love the classic Manuel Canovas trellis pattern. Not so hot on the Kelly Wearstler Trellis pattern for some reason. Anyway, I also love grasscloth and would love to try it. I just hate to go to the trouble of having to hire someone to hang it because I always have such horrible luck hiring tradespeople. I would rather paint because I can do that myself and make sure it'd done right. Anyway, here are some beautiful, timeless wallpapers:...See MoreHas anyone ever wallpapered a ceiling?
Comments (12)Never wallpapered a ceiling, but spent days on a scaffold with a steamer plate taking off old paper that was failing in a very large room. Likely easier to install! Around here they rent the motorized lifts on wheels for interior use at the tool rental places on a daily or weekly basis, about $500 a week, that replaces scaffolding. Sort of a mini cherry picker that fits through doors. Maybe in your area, too? The link below carries beadboard paper in 33' rolls in both prepasted & "paste the wall" versions & mentions the latter as recommended for ceiling application. Pasting the ceiling would be much simpler than trying to deal with wetted paper at such heights. They carry the paste as well. Good prices & reviews, free shipping for purchases over $100. Didn't know wallpaper came in this kind of Lyncrusta light version. Very nice & great possibilities!
