Lafonda - I also love that coffee table for your sofa. If and when you get it, you can then make decisions about which elements in your room do or do not coordinate with it. What really caught my eye were the two framed pictures against the far wall, presumably waiting to be hung? I did a double-take when I saw them. They look *exactly* like two that we have. We bought the unframed prints in the gift shop of the LaFonda Hotel in Santa Fe, many years ago. They are painted in the style of the Santa Fe School of Indian Art, and are so graceful and lively. The thing is that when I had them framed, I used the *exact* color of your mats and pale, soft blue wooden frames, which are starting to fade now. Have you hung your pictures yet?

Thanks squirrel. That is more of less how I had the sofa before. I agree it does not need to be centered. The rule of thumb I've always followed is to either center or put off center to make it look intentional. I'll try playing with the chairs and drum tables. In that pic they are both on the sofa side, though I've been playing around with a few different arrangements. I'm going to leave in about 1 hour for the painting--hope it looks as good IRL as your photoshopped version. Need to know, though, about the console/demilune table as that lady is having a garage sale (and it's kindof on the way), yey or nay..... Not sure if you saw my other thread about art placement and botancial prints I started yesterday. I could really use some help there--about how to display and group the prints since it looks like I'm going to have to go to some expense to frame, I want to do it right.

Oh, heck no, and I don't think that they need to be similar in tone, either... contrast is good, lest you get the "tried to match and missed" look, which is very much not good. That goes double if you're furnishing with antiques/vintage items. I have a pretty small living room (approx 12x16 if we're being optimistic!) and not one thing matches anything else. The coffee table is nutmeg-stained maple, rectangular with porringer corners and big drawers, sort of country-Victorian-inspired. One side table is a 30" round tea table in cherry-stained quartersawn oak in typical reproduction Mission style. Another is a small antique Arts & Crafts period 16" round tabouret table, quartersawn oak in a chocolatey brown finish (fumed oak). The last is a little bitty 12" square blonde ashwood table with slightly curvy legs, rather more modern than the other items although I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a certain style of mahogany or walnut Victorian bookstand end table to come along in-budget (aka cheap LOL). I have a large backless upholstered bench that's too modern in style for this old house and is on my list of things to sell - once I do I plan to replace it with a wing chair and I think the small copper-topped fumed-oak trestle coffee table would fit underneath the window next to where the chair would go. What makes everything play nicely together is that it's all from (or reproduced from) the same time period, the turn of the 19th-20th century.

groveraxle, Thanks for the photoshops. That actually has me back to considering the light grey concrete one the most as it seems to match the overall asthetic better than others I am considering. May not be as thin as what I would prefer but the singlular central base feels like a good compromise.
