Comments (12)If your time is worth the $$$, PlantSkydd has a wonderful 'Shaker Bag' of small granules (bovine etc. blood) that has successfully eliminated the rabbit, squirrel etc. damage in my beds. I've been using the same bag for 2 years now, and don't sprinkle it overzealously. Since it is a 'blood' product, it also breaks down into a good fertilizer and I've used it on top of Fall-planted bulbs (especially Tulips) to discourage the digging. This has got to be one of the best products ever invented! Order it online if no Nursery in your area stocks it. HD and Lowes do not carry it----guess it's too effective and they can't sell enough of it or the manufacturer is just picky about their vendors....See MoreWhat is the easy/fast way to dig holes
Comments (11)If the soil is very hard, and there is no rain forecast, then either set a sprinkler or soaker hose where you will be digging, for at least a few hours, overnight if you can, the day before you want to dig. Mud is easier to dig, but heavier and very messy, so you only want damp soil, not soggy soil. If you have rocky soil, you will need a mattock or digger/pry bar as well as the serrated shovel. Just be careful to lever out any rocks with the pry bar and not the shovel. It's REALLY hard to replace shovel handles, at least it is around here. Don't forget not to plant too deeply; leave the root flare at ground level. Mulch after planting - no mulch in the 2-4" next to the trunk, no deeper than 4", and as wide as you can, at least to the drip line. And water!...See MoreDigging animals, yellow fruit on an orange plant?
Comments (12)haha, Bruce you are awful! I agree with Bruce on the color. I'd advise chicken wire around the garden. I have a 3ft rail fence around mine, covered in chicken wire. It keeps out the rabbits, but my Kuvasz continually jump the fence. Couple of years ago I put powdered milk and epsom salts in the pepper holes at planting. Next day while I was at work and husband got home early, he let the dogs out and left them. When I got home my 6 month old puppy had jumped the fence and had dug up every single pepper to eat the powdered milk. :-( they were all dead by the time I found them.... surprisingly she is still alive and so is the husband....See MoreAnimal digging under our gazebo
Comments (3)yeah.. i meant to come back and mention that.. lol ... thought about that about an hour later ... hence the referral to a trapper .. who has permits for such ... see link ... its really all about how hard you want to work in dissuading them ... versus damage.. etc ... some times i get lucky.. and they go away.. if i go out there daily.. and irritate them simply by being around [filling the hoe.. putting down hardware clother.. etc ...] .. some like privacy .. lol ... as compared to other things.. that can do significant damage.. and need immediate results.. like when momma and 3 raccoons took up living in the eave of my pole barn ... i had no sense of humor about that ... and OMG.. the stink .... many options.. for you to choose from ... but you have to start.. by figuring out what it is ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
