It's generally my preference that garage doors be the same color as the body of the house. Of your options, I'd choose black to tie in with the window above and to not distract from the front door.

With those two choices, I also vote for the wood to match the door. Black would draw too much focus, especially for an attached, front-facing garage door. I’d want more focus on the front door/entry area.

The wood garage door in your photo looks nice, but it also pulls focus, at least for my eyes.

if the garage door is real wood, then I vote for that (stained to match your front door). if it's fiberglass or aluminum, then a deep charcoal would look great. (brown faux wood doors look are quite bad, or at least the ones I've seen.)

I like garage doors to be the same color as the body of the house. However, the picture you have of the stained garage door looks good!

I never like the garage door being an accent so I say a colour as close to the siding/stone as possible. Let your front door be the accent not your garage doors.

I am so torn. The house really has no brown in it other than a bit of brown in the stonework. I am afraid of it looking like two black squares staring back at you when you pull up to the house. On the other hand, I feel like bringing in the wood stain look feels out of place for the house, but not for the location. I've elimiated white for practical reasons (very rural, lakefront etc.) and dark gray just looks dreary to me.

Black just seems pretty severe. Painting it the same color as the siding/body would still look nice. Both the white trim around the doors and windows in them would also add interest but be less of a focal point. I do understand being torn.

Robin. Ask yourself this question. What do you want the first thing the eye sees when looking at your home from street. Front door? If so, let that stand out and garage doors take back seat. Use porch chairs or planters to further highlight front entry. Garage doors are too forward already in your house. Paint them same color as siding. Make them “supporting” actors. You won’t regret this.

Exactly! Robin, if you keep that in mind it will be great. It’s a lovely house!

Painting the garage the same color as the siding is not under consideration at the moment. We are trying stain first, because it can always be painted over if we hate it. You can't stain if you paint first.

If you’re ambivalent, your plan is a good one - stain first, assess, leave alone or paint.

Wood garage doors are expensive and heavy. If would check into good doors that can be painted, probably save a good bit of money.

It really is impossible to say for sure what would work best without seeing the whole front of the house, and what the front door will look like.

Whatever stain you use will of course need to be cohesive with the blue tones in the stone.

I like both the color and the style of the wood door you show .

Black would be my last choice. Actually any color other than the siding color would all be my last choices.

So I guess that leaves woodtone.

Paint it the same color as the siding. The garage doors are not a feature. The front door is.

BTW: That is a nice house, but sorry, it's not a craftsman house.

It certainly is a Craftsman style home. Here are some photos of the models from the plans that we are using plus some of the house in progress. I guess I should have posted more than just the garage doors.

With that property, who cares about garage doors. Thanks for these photos. Really helps. Make sure when is doors are cedar so being near water doesn’t cause rapid deterioration. The setting is stunning!

I had this recent dilemma. I went with the walnut garage doors. I just like wood tones over black. I never thought to go with the siding color. Someone told me to match the front door. Good luck!
