amberm, I've been following this post with interest, since it took me a long time to get my master bathroom the way I wanted it. I allocated about the same amount of space for ours, because it seems to me that so many bathrooms that I've seen waste a lot of space. Also, I decided to let the configuration of our garage and MBR determine the final space for the MBath. (I'm not an architect, but I designed our house.) Now that we've been living with it for several years, I can still say that I love ours. I had measured dozens of closets seen during various Parade of Homes in our tri-county area for several years, and decided the perfect width was the same as yours--7'6". The shape and length (4" longer) are almost the same, except that we go through the corner of the bath to get to the closet. I debated about whether to put the closet window where you have it, but instead put it opposite the door, since we have a beautiful view that can be seen out back every time we enter the closet. DH and I also go to bed and get up at different times, so I can totally understand why you'd want your bathroom further back and more private. Also, I definitely did NOT want the tub under the window, since we live in a cold climate and under the window is cold air from the window pane (which has an R-value of only about 3) sliding down the wall, (whereas our wall has an R-value of at least 20+, I think) is the coldest spot in the room! Looking at your 21:14 post on my birthday ;o), I'd make one suggestion that I think would visually improve the bathroom greatly. If you switch the toilet room with the tub, as you enter the bathroom, everything will feel so much more open when you are looking across the tub to the window instead of at the toilet room wall. And wouldn't you rather look at a tub than a toilet? The light from the window will fill the space above the tub and into the glassed shower, and will also go in the toilet room door. I can't tell exactly what your measurements are for everything, but something to consider would be to get a 5'6" long 36" wide alcove tub that is comfortable to soak in. You'd need to allow about 5" for a short wall at the short end of the tub opposite the vanities.We went to Kohler, WI and I sat in every tub they had there. Ended up getting the 5'6" Mariposa, because it used the least amount of water for the depth I wanted, and the way they did the inside rim made it easier to get out of it. Also, DH (5'11") and I (5'4") each thought it was a good fit and comfortable. I use it primarily when I'm tired after extensive gardening or cross-country skiing. He has never used it. If there's not enough space between the tub and the vanities to suit you (although it would feel quite open with the tub instead of a high wall there--we have an upstairs bath that has an 18" deep vanity, in a 4'6" deep space that has a door opening to the toilet/tub behind it, so it feels spacious enough), then you could move the bath/closet wall to the right up to about a foot. That would work better with the MBR door from the hall opening up against the wall, but would take some space from your closet. Maybe a tough decision. Anne

These remarks relate to the Bedroom Entrance Option The European style drawer slides take 1/2" on each side. Lee Valley Tools Catalogue drawer slides. So that means losing an inch. The Kohler Purist and their Kathyrn shower receptors - both cast iron and porcelain like a good old-fashioned tub - are 36" x 48" and that probably makes for a comfortable shower for most people. The 30" dimension shower would be far more uncomfortable for me, as I am a big person. Those extra couple of inches (51 - 48 = 3) would make your linen pull outs that much more usable. Big towels would probably have to be rolled, but the linen closet would be so worth it! A six foot long vanity absolutely has room for dual sinks - we have them in a five foot long vanity here - but if you are not sure you want them, then why the long vanity? Are you going to make a place to sit and do your hair and make-up? Or do you simply want the cabinet space? If it is the cabinets you want, then make a tall cabinet in part of that space and do a 4 ft vanity and a 2 ft linen closet. Do drawers in the base cabinet of the linen cabinet over by the toilet so that you don't have to worry about opening cabinet doors there. Then you can have a robe and towel hanging space at the end of the shower, instead of a narrow linen closet. The four-foot long vanity space could have a trough sink in it, that would actually allow room for two people to use the sink if needed. Again, look to Europe for space-saving measures. Here is a Lacava trough sink in a 48" space with two faucets. To quote the designer: kelley gardner "The sink is 34" and the entire width of space is 48". The space between the faucets is roughly 22" "

So ensuite or en suite is very clearly a British term (with French origin) and used in NA more commonly in Canada. It doesn't mean that Americans don't know what it means but the only reason I do is because of the Canadian origin on much of HGTV. Well - ok - maybe from travel to Europe before that. Where I live it hasn't become a common term. The fact is that pools are more common in warmer climates. Doesn't mean they don't exist of course in Canada but was trying to make an educated guess - house has pool using a British/French term - I would go with Bahamas or Aus. And - are we calling Southern Idaho warm? Back to the original question - the 4th bedroom will never have a toilet? I am confused because in one line you say ensuite means all 3 parts but then you say just vanity and shower is on the table. In the US, it would be a little unusual which is generally not good for resale value. Many people get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet. Having to go into a public area to do that (the hall) is not ideal if they are modest. But if that is already done, then it would still be helpful to have the shower in the suite but it would add a little to the "unusual" nature. So from a resale point of view, I would keep things as normal as they can be. Now - are in you in AUS or are you Australian? Clarity is helpful. Because resale in AUS - no idea. There are probably parts of the US that unusual is no big deal. In my area, it is a big deal.

I can see what you’re saying about the sinks, I am just certain they will be removed. The vanities are to scale so I thought that was more important. Yes, both vanity tops truly touch each wall. Yes, we are prepared for the expense of moving the problem. The en suite bathroom does not work for us because the shower is so small. I’m trying to get a sense of if just flipping the shower and vanity will be enough or if much more will be gained by removing some square footage from the other bathroom and removing that room’s tub and shower. These rooms are in between two bedrooms, one is and has been used as an office for the last 30 years. There is an additional full bathroom upstairs and an additional two bedrooms. There is an additional half bath in the basement. The shower actually backs into the other bathroom, the plumbing is in the wall which I realized I should have included but messed up on the floor plan. The en suite shower size is accurate - the hall bath’s tin and shower is a bit shorter as a result of needing to account for the wall in between. I will have to go back into the floor plan app to check on the toilet size. The bathrooms, especially the en suite is very tight.
