Bedroom Blackout Window Coverings

We have 3 windows in our bedroom with regular blinds. We want to keep the blinds but add a blackout treatment. It doesn’t have to be completely blackout. We’re deciding on either adding roller shades that are outside mounted or doing curtains. If we do curtains what should we do for the 2 narrow windows (22”w)? Most curtains off Amazon seem to be around 50”w.

Any help is appreciated!

Black out drapes will give you complete privacy when closed, so you could do away with the blinds. You have the room to stack the drapes to the side of the bedside windows…and to both sides with a center split for the large window if you want to open them. Curtain panel width is not the same as window width. The total width of drapery panel(s) should be at least double the width of the window (AND any wall space for stacking) for casual draperies, triple for a more generous, high end look.

So for the narrower windows just do a single drape that go the sides?

Thanks we do have room on the sides. We also already have light filtering shades that are supposed to filter out 99% of the light. However there's still way too much light that comes through in the morning especially since the sun rises right in the window. We need blackout curtains in order to be able to sleep. They would be mostly pulled during the day so I'm not too worried about how they would look when closed. I'm afraid panels wouldn't work because light might come in where the two panels meet.

Do you sew? Remove the black treatments. I would make roman shades. Make them the the width of the 2 windows and hang them on the trim just above the window. I would do them in fabric the same color as the trim so if the decor changes the shades can stay.

Help! Whatcombination of sheer/blackout drapes plus panel for bedroom?

Option 1) Perhaps put a roll up blackout shade, made to fit your window. Keep it open until bedtime. It will show through the sheers but if it’s only used at bedtime it may be ok. Won’t help much with mouse or temperature. Option 2). Buy or have made heavy blackout drapes in a nice fabric, touching the floor. Use a double rod and put your sheers on this second rod underneath the blackout drapes. Sheers and blackouts can open and close independently, as you wish.

A fabric roman shade would be pretty. Outside mount. I would not do drapery on the side windows. They would not be fun to open and close with nightstands right there.
