It's sorta like raising kids - a long, drawn out, time consuming, challenging procedure, with some happy times thrown it, to which you can raise a glass, not filled with whine, in appreciation.

I was in Mexico/Cabo San Lucas @ The Golden Chicken/El Pollo Del Oro, trying to order breakfast. I wanted toast, so I ordered pan, which is bread. They brought me a tortilla. Tostado is also a tortilla.(people /friends @ our table started taking bets as to what they'd bring me) So, how to order toast. Brinda means a toast with a wine glass...THAT got me toasted bread. ???

well ....So I looked it up when I got home. People put toast in their wine glass....and raised the toast...

Nicole, your story reminds me of the time I was in Mexico taking a Spanish class with a teacher who didn't speak much English. Someone in the class sneezed and another student said, "Salud." Then el profesor smiled and said, "And in English...Cheers!"
