Is water sitting on our new shower floor normal?

last year

So we finally completed our bathroom remodel. Loved our contractor amd had a great relationship. we used thw shower for the first time today and noticed puddles of water sitting on the floor hours after we showered. Is this normal? Will this be a problem? Right now i told my kids and husband to kick the water into the drain w their feet and then i go in ans wipe it dry. Any advice? Should we live with this?

Any photos during construction? Yes this is a problem and a sign of sloppy install, shower floors sloping toward drain is 101 level stuff.

just had to copy & paste these statements: "The whole enclave is ostentatiously poorly designed. Very depressing. In fact, if all houses were for sale, theirs would be the FIRST I would buy. Y'all are reading my mind...its uncanny! I really hate threads with folks talking smack about the neighbor's tacky house..one person's tacky house is another's dream home... best of luck OP.

It sounds as though you purchased a drop in tub to use in a shower/tub situation and now everytime the water hits the ledge around the tub, it's being funneled to the low spot of the decking and leaking out onto the floor. Using a curtain only protects one side of the deck from getting splashdown on it. You'd have to get one of those "hoop" shower curtain rods designed to be used with clawfoot bath tubs to protect all the side and end walls. And, be very very careful. When a drop in tub is used for a shower/tub, there is no integral tile flange to keep the spraydown water flowing into the tub. That means it sits on the deck, or flows ono the floor (your current problem) and eventually seeps into your walls causing mold and potentially rotten wood. My personal solution would be to rip it out and do it correctly before you have to at some point down the road when the inevitable water damage occurs.

Beautiful shower. Perhaps they are flawed tiles that fall within the range of acceptable to the manufacturer. (I'm suggesting this based on an ad I heard from a local bath company that says they sort through the tiles and remove the ones that are acceptable to the manufacturer but not to them.) Personally, I could live with those imperfections. But if this is going to bother you endlessly, you could have the two tiles replaced. I'm not sure the grout will then be as picture perfect as it is now, though.

Rainshower heads produce more water which leads to an increased need for the right size drain so it can drain efficiently. Also, you mentioned you just remodeled a bathroom, was a tub converted to a shower? If that was the case the shower requires 2" pipe in comparison to a tub which only needs 1 1/2". so the portion of the pipe must be changed to a 2" pipe.

Call him and ask him how he waterproofed the floor and the walls. Or look at your contract with him. Did he have the inspector sign off on the flood test?

Your photo from here thru this laptop shows tell tale signs of preslope/grading issues. Your drain tells me you likely have a weep hole type build or possibly a divot method.(doubtful of the latter) this means there is likely a pan liner that requires a PERFECT preslope underneath it.

What does the detailed SCOPE in your contract say about flood testing ? whats it say about Tile standards to be met and followed?

If you come to find no Flood test was approved by the plumbing inspector via your permits.?

Best course of action ?

Your best bet is to hire a seperate /different licensed plumber who has the proper flood insurance. Have them install an INFLATEABLE test plug down BELOW the clamp drain riser and fill it up to the curb and leave it (While closely monitoring it.) if after 48 hrs the water level has not dropped. Id say its then up to you to decide to live with it or youll know quickly if it all needs to be torn out.

If no leaks you should continue to see these pools repeat in the same area after each use

ILLSAY IT AGAIN

Homeowners if you dont want to be a statistic get yourself an enforceable contract replete with a Detailed TILE scope. In that scope make sure it references :

"All MFG instructions, TCNA, ANSI., IRC, UPC IAMPO standards are to be met and followed."

get A guarantee in writing and youll have recourse when things fail.

This will send 75% of the prospectable hires running out your door and YES it will cost more than the half price crew. If yoou hired a GC you DOUBLE DANG sure want to get that in writing as MANY NOT ALL GC's sub out based on price and gamble with your money.

You want the tile crew that Puts the TCNA method number they intend to employ into your estimate. The crew that starts the conversation with the TCNA book in hand.

It is always best to hire a Tile contractor thats qualified directly if you have any doubt of your GC.

If he screwed up something as basic as slope there are more problems that you can't see until it becomes catastrophic...
