Design Dilemma home office

Office off of master bedroom

We are thinking about closing in some of our sunroom/playroom to add a home office. We want to add a door (the only door into the office) from our master bedroom. What are your thoughts? I’ve attached a rough drawing. I dont forsee a time when someone other

than us would need to use the office.

Why don't you want to put the door to the right of the fireplace where you have the orange mark? Is there not enough room there? Or is it an exterior wall, and the wall out of the MB isn't? If something is preventing you from putting the door there, a door from the MB is OK if it fits your lifestyle. No one in the MB is going to be bothered and visa versa?

To be honest, I mostly just dont want to put it where the red mark is because thats where I put my christmas tree 😂

Also...now that each bedroom has a bathroom...are you putting son in front bedroom? Just thought it might give younger girls more privacy and they could each have window seats, if they like. And it makes their rooms almost identical, except for bathroom window :) I'm guessing older son might want a desk or chair, but that's based on my nephew at that age...or maybe drums. LOL

Is having a laundry room off the master bedroom a crazy idea?

I like weedys's idea of putting the laundry where the master toilet was, recessing the door to the master bedroom to allow for a door into the new laundry, and then sorting out your master bathroom and closet space because all you're doing there is swapping floor space. You don't have to deal with exterior walls and window locations. I'll toss this idea out. Move the laundry over to where the linen closet was and move the linen closet across so it backs up to the stairway. Bedroom closets go behind the laundry. You could also move the kids' bathroom to where I have the new laundry. With the bathroom layout adjusted of course. Then move the washer and dryer to where the tub is in the old kid's bathroom. In that laundry you could even keep the toilet and sink for a laundry/half-bath.

Thank you for responding and for your interest. I’m not sure if I’m properly relating the GCs idea here - but he suggested putting the beam above the ceiling but not sure how we can slide it in since this is a second floor and we haven’t looked for an entrance from the outside such as a vent. We are in the beginning stages and haven’t started demo or anything so at this point, I’m open to suggestions. I was planning on putting furniture against the wall in the red area. Maybe a tall dresser. The master bedroom is already sort of small at 14 1/2 by 15 so I hate to get rid of that extra space.

In my very humble opinion... I would suggest painting the Ceiling the same color as your surrounding walls, by doing this it will taKe away from all the angles and not drawing more attention to that ceiling... I would paint that wall and get some drapes in the same color, ( you don’t want to add more to make it stand out) add two pendant lights above each night Stand, you need all the space on those night stands and the lamps are taking up valuable real estate. Like this... don’t. Mind my rough drawing...

Looks like a good idea and if a future owner wanted a nice walk in closet, they could fit it out for that. That's an argument to enter from the MBR. Where's the door to the MBR? With adding another door to your office, are you ok with furniture placement in the bedroom?
