The tile guys scratched my new quartz countertops!
Comments (21)you feel like you and your family should be the ones to make the first scratch, ding, gouge, or stain! Ain't that the truth! It still bugs me how cavalier my GC was when I pointed out all of the plaster splatters on the existing woodwork and doors just outside the kitchen (the plaster splatters left by the plasterers). I asked "what about cleaning that up?" GC: "Oh, that'll come right up." Well, it had been sitting on the stained wood door for two weeks by then, and the water in the plaster soaked into the wood and left a noticeable patch. Luckily the painter was able to fix it so it's not so noticeable. And the worst part is that I would have cleaned it up *myself* if DH hadn't kept saying "that's what we're paying the GC for--to take care of everything." HA! The blessing is that DH knows better now not to prevent me from taking care of things when I've got a mind to do it....See MoreHow scratch-resistant is quartz?
Comments (20)"What is the advantage in making a scratch disappear "completely" if you are left with another irregularity in its place?" jellytoast; oldryder answered your question in his first paragraph. If your fabricator has scratched the piece at install he'll make it right with no dip or you'll get a replacement piece. If your drunken brother-in-law scratches your top and you're looking at several thousand dollars in replacement, a little dip is going to look much nicer than a scratch or the invoice from the fabricator. I just took the scratch out of my $250.00 Oakley sunglasses, but now I've got distortion when I look through them. Fortunately, they'll give me a new pair for my old ones and $125.00....See MoreQuartz countertop scratches
Comments (18)I am a fabricator. From a previous post: "Cambria is durable and more resistant to surface damage than other stone. " This quote is doubly inaccurate. 1st; Cambria (or any other quartz product) is not stone but an engineered material made of petrochemical based resins and various inclusions such a quartz chips, glass, and other materials picked for their esthetic value. 2nd: The resin component, which is the matrix holding the various inclusions, is very soft relative to typical stone countertop materials and it is usually the resin that is scratched. A scratched quartz top is much more of a problem to repair than most natural stone tops because it is very difficult to restore the factory polish on quartz. (It's no picnic on natural stone either but a decent stone fabricator can usually do it. As Joe commented it takes a lot more talent to achieve the same thing on quartz.)...See MoreStove - center of island or along the edge?
Comments (170)All I did was a quick Google search for "Everlast Constuction". I then clicked on the second to the top link. It is a Yelp review. Merk, Ian, your review is third. You describe your experience very well. You show several photos proving very clearly your case. Good job! If consequences come to this "poor, innocent, honest man, with a family to feed", well then hopefully he will learn a lesson. He didn't seem to learn from the last person who contacted you with a similar story. Hopefully this will be a wake up call. I highly doubt it though. I think he should SIGN YOUR LIEN RELEASE for the very small amount left on the contract. Was it 7%? What are we talking here? Come on! If he doesn't, he is a total jerk and most likely will go out of business like you said. He needs to just eat some humble pie and do the right thing here. Yes, I believe you can make a claim on his bond. Please do file a complaint with the CSLB. Ask the other person who successfully collected on his bond how they did it. I think it was Roxanne a few review under yours on the Yelp site. Best wishes....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
