Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/26
Comments (51)Late to the party. My weight has been in flux this week. Started the week out 1lb up but now that it's Friday I'm 1lb down, so hopefully I'm either unchanged or 1lb down overall. Trying to stay strong during the weekdays, having healthy meals and avoiding any alcohol. Though to be honest, this has been the kind of week that makes me want to have a cocktail pretty badly. I have been great with cardio this week. Swimming or running every single morning and trying to push myself during the workouts. I am really struggling to find the time to prioritize lifting weights. I've only gotten 2 lifts in this week and I should be at 4. I've been really sore from swimming and running and that's probably impacting my motivation to do it. Had some really exciting non-scale victories this week. My favorite smallest size jeans from 8 years ago fit again! I was not sure I would ever fit into them again but they fit. And every single pair of older shorts fits again too! It feels great to be able to grab some old favorites out of the closet and wear them. Then I had two separate people tell me that I looked great. I know I shouldn't be worried about what others think, but it was nice to feel like finally someone other than myself could see the progress. Thank you for the accountability and support that these posts bring. I love hearing all the successes and what you use to motivate yourselves and stay on track. It really really helps....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/24
Comments (31)I probably got the ulcers from taking a lot of NSAIDs for migraines. I am hoping that they heal but I have to stay on this limited diet for at least six months. Technically I'm not supposed to drink any fizzy drinks, but I do splurge on a flavored soda water, sans calories. I drink either Lacroix or Polar or a store brand. It seems crazy, but I have a hard time drinking just water, it tastes metallic to me and it just kind of gags me to try and drink it. It's like taking medicine. The metameucil goes down easier ironically. I also have to take the generic Prilosec. And no more naproxin or ibuprofin or asprin. I can still take Tylenol. I supposedly have to take the fiber drinks twice a day but I am lucky if I remember to take them once a day. I eat a lot of fiber, but with being on a diet, I don't actually get to eat a lot of anything, so I take the fiber supplements and a probiotic tablet every day. I know exercise would help with the diverticulosis too . . . sigh. I am just so busy right now with household things, and a lot of sitting at my desk for some other projects . . . and when I'm not sitting I'm super busy with the home projects. At night I feel exhausted. That's why of all the exercise options, seems like yoga in the evening would most work into my busy schedule. That and just doing some time on the exercise bike on the porch . . ....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/18
Comments (41)Yes, hubs and I used to walk almost every day back when I lived in a walkable neighborhood. And before that I walked by myself all over the place. And I used to walk a lot for work since I worked at an arboretum. Even my friend who is an inveterate walker commented on how unpleasant it was walking in my neighborhood. I love our lot, and there are many lovely homes on lovely lots, but the in-between parts are not very good. I think this is relatively recent as the neighborhood has gone down considerably in the last ten years, along with most neighborhoods in my home town, outside of the lake properties, which have just sky rocketed. Hubs has taken to driving the dog to a big park on the other side of town, known as the more ritzy neighborhood, and even there he saw homeless people camping out. There is a homeless person apparently now living on the steps of our local library, (It has a portico over the unused back entrance) just below the "Keep Off the Steps" sign . . . sigh. We have homeless shelters and people working on this problem, but it doesn't seem to get better, just worse. We are just off of a major freeway interchange which I think is a big part of it. It's not that I am "too good" to be around homeless people, quite the opposite but who knows with the mental illness and drug problems that accompany so many, and also, it is just sad to see but I have tried referring folks to the local services but they never follow through. So its sad and depressing. Ironically, on the flip side, my home is very conveniently located for driving to shopping places and getting on the interstate . . . I think/hope I will be back at the senior center on the treadmill in the not too distant future . . . Edited to add as a side note, we used to have a huge state home for mentally challenged children and adults that was the major employer in our town. We were known for the "State Home." Lots of sadness and problems there too, only certain people could leave of their own volition, along with folks really trying to help in that situation as well. It closed and we've gone to a smaller, non-mandatory model for care, but that leaves folks unable to fit into that situation either on the streets or often in jail or prison, which is right back where we started only worse . . . It's one of the most confounding problems of our time. Of course like most problems it's going to take a multi-pronged approach to solve. My uncle was in intractable alcoholic and it made my grandmother so sad. She gave him just enough money to keep him housed, but it was a constant battle to keep a roof over his head because he would drink away any offering of help in any realm....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/29
Comments (15)Oh no @Funkyart and @Sueb20 I am so sorry you are both sick! I hope you both feel much better very soon. My husband is away at work, coming home tomorrow, and just told me that he has a cold now. I really hope I don't get it. I think there are still a lot of viruses circulating right now. I have an upcoming in person company event with the entire company. So I decided I'd better get my sh*** together and get the latest (4th) C booster. That night it snowed, but not a lot, so I opted to shovel instead of using the snowblower. Well, I must have seriously pulled something in my neck/shoulder/upper back area. I've been in a ton of pain for the last few days, though slightly better each day. And I was terribly fatigued for a few days, but that seems to have passed at least. I haven't dared try to lift weights since. Today I thought I was feeling capable of swimming and was hoping that the motion would loosen things up. Well, someone had the lap swimming pool set really cold and it was really painful the entire time. I toughed it out for 50 minutes but couldn't even make my usual 60, and I was completely unable to really push myself. I hope this gets better soon. It may be time to see if the massage therapist I used to see is still working. I really don't want to fall off the exercise wagon. Eating wise I'm still doing 5:2 IF. I'm still not seeing any progress with my extra 3 holiday pounds but I suppose it's still a win that I haven't added any more to that weight gain. On a positive note, I was checking my professional wardrobe and concluded that all of my newer button up shirts are way too big, but some of my older ones that I'd been too big to wear fit great now. I also ordered this James Perse shirt (on sale!) and there is no way I would have fit into this a year ago. (This picture is on a model, not me.) It feels good to get some new clothes and feel confident about wearing them around my coworkers. @gsciencechick your grill is so cute! I love the color. I've always loved the look of the Weber grills but I am terrible about lighting charcoal. Also HUGE congratulations on being down 10 pounds since October! That's impressive!...See MoreRNmomof2 zone 5
