white quartz countertops and staining
Comments (177)I have a kitchen table from Room & Board that has a white quartz top. It does occasionally stain with ink, pencil, colored pencil, etc. Normally I use a homemade cleaner with water, alcohol and blue dawn. It gets everything out for me. I did have one stain from the magnet on the back of my phone case which came in contact with water. I used bar keepers friend and it came right off. I am only left with a small mark that was on the table when it was delivered (we were out of the country and someone else received the table and didn’t say anything to the delivery men). It appears to be a small ink mark. We have been able to dull it slightly, but haven’t been successful at removing it. I will try the greased lightning suggested above, and maybe diluted bleach as a last resort....See MoreKitchenaid slide-in induction range scorched the wall
Comments (32)We just completed reno in our kitchen and installed a slide in kitchen aid range. The first use of the oven mirrors the comments above. The key is there is only one vent for release of smoke and heat and it is the second open slot on the left of the unit. In our case the heat release exposed our quartzite backsplash to extreme heat and yellow stained it. I had our stone man come back he elaborated that the vent and maximizing the heat vented to one slot is not ideal. I now put a trivet at an angle between the stove and the wall to deflect the heat and coupled with the installed vent seems to deflect but ideally is not a long term solution. My thoughts are that the design of the venting slots on the stove are not correct and need modification....See MoreAdvice for new countertops - granite or quartz??
Comments (6)IMO granite beats quartz hands down. Granite is almost bullet proof , if polished even better . No issue wuth hot pots or behind cooking appliances and there are many light colored ones to choose from. Before you choose anything please get rid of the edison bulbs that make everything look yellow get all LEDs in 4000K you will be amazed at how different your space will look...See MorePlease help! Installers ruined thousand dollar quartz backsplash :(
Comments (46)This looks so ugly and breaks our heart after spending thousands of dollars on the slab and labor. The GC says that is not a big deal and we can just add another piece of trim. He says that most times walls are not straight and trims hide it. To me it seem unacceptable as there should not be a trim in the first place and the backsplash should be the thing hiding any gaps. The trim solution looks ugly. Your enemy here is the concept of perfection ... and Pinterest. Saying they have "ruined thousands of dollars" of materials is going overboard, making a catastrophe of something minor. This is not a horrible thing, and once the kitchen is finished and filled with all the accessories, you won't see this like you do today. I cook every day and I bake, I deep fry, I broil. There is no sign of heat damage to the Formica after 50 years of use. We all know that Formica is plastic and not exceptionally heat resistant. Eh, look at these two pictures, taken from this thread ... what difference do you see? The second stove has a back, which protects the formica from the worst of the heat. That can make a big difference in whether the backsplash becomes discolored. Believe it or not, laminate tops are a lot more durable than people give them credit for. Folks had them in their homes for many years. Eh, I think maybe it used to be better than it is now. When we moved into this house 20 years ago we had the original laminate /formica ... the pattern was hideous, and some of the edges were torn off, but the main work spaces were in perfect condition ... and it was over 30 years old. We replaced it with new laminate (because the kitchen is huge, and it's what we could afford then), and it is now badly scratched up ... you'd think we use knives directly on it....See Moredarbuka
