I've been "planning" to divide my old irises since June, but whoa! What a chore! Not sure my legs and back can stand it. There are Irises everywhere (that's one plant that can grow really well in Oklahoma). They have multiplied so much that they are stacked on top of each other like turtles on a log in a pond on a hot day!!! I have way too many of the two-toned red-violet ones and purple with red-violet falls. They are the most prolific reproducers I have. Man they multiply! I am going to take all the extras out and toss them out along the highway grader ditches leading in and out of town. This town is about dried up and dead. We need something to bring people here. How about an Iris Festival in May every year? The downtown streets are extra wide - built back in the cowboy days, so there is plenty of room. Irises blooming all over downtown and all along the highway coming into town? A small investment for the town in general if everyone divides up their irises and just tosses some of them out along the highway. And it wouldn't take any time at all before it could become a reality....don't you think? Anyway, that is my pipe dream. They always bloom so beautifully the following year after being divided and reset that it almost makes the horrific job & back pain bearable...well, almost. Annie

I've bought rhizomes from Nola's Iris Garden (Prevost Ranch)in San Jose. The rhizomes were large and they threw in a few extras (not rebloomers though). I haven't been there in person, but they have a huge selection of rebloomers on their website. This year I went in person to Napa County Iris Garden. Lovely gardens, I brought home two potted plants. I ordered a few rhizomes that will be coming this fall- the potted plants were nice, I'm curious to see how the rhizomes are. They don't have as large of a selection of rebloomers that Nola's does, but there are a few different varieties.

Carlos, I am amazed at how many iris you have growing on a city lot. It must be a very large lot. You have many on those lists to add to your Schreiner's collection. I also see that you have a large number of Walter Moores iris. I am also a collection of Moores iris and also have a good collection of the older Schreiner's iris. I plan in the near future to get all my Schreiner's and Moores' iris into their own areas. Now they are growing in various iris areas. I have a collection of the Dykes Metal winners. At least I have something growing under all the names. I am not sure anyone knows the true ID of some of the older Dykes winners. I have several different older Dykes iris growing under the same name. I have 20 acres of which 14 could be used to grow iris if I need the space. I have several iris areas that may cover about 2 acres all together. I have several mass planting of older iris(Quaker Lady, New Snow, Wabash, Shah Jehan, Cardinal, Indian Chief). I started with iris 5 years ago and am just now getting enough material to arrange it into different gardens. Lee Mincy

Me too, I love the broken colored Iris! Oh you got the Orangutan Orange! That one is so beautiful. That was on my want list. Or rather still is, maybe next year. I can't wait to see your pics next year of your new ones! Of about 80-100 that I planted last year only 4 bloomed this year. But they are all (well mostly) growing well. That is great that all of yours bloomed! BTW you said all are trimmed fed & watered, what do you feed them? I know that the deep south is a tough place to successfully raise Iris and any help in that direction would be greatly appreciated! Rena'
