Does it get much sun?? Also, I don’t know your zone, am wondering if it’s 5 or 5b like me. All of your hostas look perfect! No burns, frost damage or even munchies damage…. How do you do it? One more thing, I see you have hostas in pots…..how do you overwinter them? Old_dirt, your hostas are beautiful as well! All your medio-variegated ones look terrific! I always thought those were a bit more picky about their conditions. Do you think they are? Also, Royal Standard has a pure white flower whereas Honeybells is more lavender. Comments (25)Thats probably why their are not alot of u names. its not real catchy. alot of real good ideas. and funny too. most of the time it takes me a long time to find a name, i come up with a few then wait. if i still like it after a month or two it sticks. i knew bloodline would be an important plant so i mulled over that for a year. the snow and white names are good. ranch is funny steves japanese twist is great too. what is the way to go …right? something that has broad appeal? niche names like food? something descriptive of the plant? something from its history? is their a consensus? whats your favorite hosta name. wildest dreams was named by jeff white. the back story is that their was a local hosta grower seller here in mn, rob mcwilliams. he grew seedlings. his goal in life was to have something good enough to register. A long story short, he got sick and died. his wife invited a hybridizing group i was in to take some of his plants to use in breeding. one of his best plants a streaker was registered by hugo phillips as robs dream. one of my sports from it was named by jeff as wildest dreams. its become my go to plant for creating variegated ruffled edge seedlings. …in the end he acheived his goal postumously....See MoreHosta V 2022 .........................
Comments (19)deb other hosta can have a somewhat bell shape; and then there are hybrids that can mix it all up with different shapes and colors. But alot of times you can get a tell on which hosta was the dominate species contributor based on the flower shape. island breeze has alot of longipes in it. longipes has quite alot of variety in the species. longipes is used mostly to pass on red pets, scapes, and sometimes in the tubes of the flowers. this seedling has some ventricosa in it, thus the flower shape, but longipes from first blush dominates the color of the pets, scapes and flower. this heartache seedling has ventricosa in it too. but crossed with war and peace ventricosa still won out. ..its not the same as the original species, but the character of it is recoginizable as ventricosa dominated....See More

2 months agoI have multiples of Invincible..the 3 lighter green at the bottom of the photo..is the darker green one above those 3 an Invincible too?..not sure about that one..

2 months agolast modified: 2 months agodeb indigo child isn't from indigo. indigo is actually a color between blue and violet. not regular blue. remember in elementary science class. roygbiv? it was my first notice of the color name indigo. some plants i like to give names that have deeper/dual meanings as well.
i lost the parentage, but i can speculate that it was first blush by clausa var clausa based on its closed flower.
i'm pushing for purple blushers and variegated blushers next.
i've come close with streakers, we shall see if they improve with age or need another genetic boost..

2 months agolast modified: 2 months agoBeth Indigo keeps its colour pretty well but would be better if it got a bit less sun. It gets sun until at least 3:00 or later.
Here it is in August 2020 when I was clearing out the Dianthus deltoides surrounding the area. I am on a well and do not water hence the browning tips.

2 months agoI hate playing catch-up. That Iris Frazier is going on my list, slow or no.
I have 5 I's but only took picks of Inniswood so you get 2 I's from me.
Inniswood at the bottom in June (the month not the Hosta).
And later in the year.
Plus, Inniswood Gardens is right around the corner from me. I should get a pic of theirs this year.
