Comments (4)Oh yeah..........here folks just don't get it. But it's nice to know that there were leaders, once, who acknowledged that huge responsibility. Not here though, no.........none of 'em, neither side, just stupidness everlasting. When you give that order, THINK about the aftermath. The rest of us, the people, just watch and weep. Comments (55)Good Friday all, From frigid frozen and bitterly cold NH!! Wow, so much for our little January thaw. She's going out like a lion with a vengeance for sure. Yesterday we had just enough snow to cover the ice making things really slick and dangerous. Many accidents and one death locally after the truck when careening into a river during a white out. So sad. Temps plummeted 30 degrees overnight....and the wind is howling. It's so windy and cold today that I closed the doors on one side of the barn to give the animals a break. Not nice. I saw on the news that we are not alone with these conditions - out in the mid-west is crazy too. Ah Winter. As cold as it was before dawn this morning (3 degrees) I must say I was taken by the beauty of the full Wolf moon setting over the pasture. It has illuminated our nights for so long. Jan and Dee, the winter months bring out the interior decorator in me to so I am thinking of repainting the downstairs bathroom and making some other significant changes there. Cabin fever brings this on I am sure. DH is home this weekend so that will be fun. I will probably not be riding the horses!! LOl no way, too icy and cold. Last Saturday was dream to be out and now.... Marci, Milkdud, thanks for the ideas. I will have to just dig in and start organizing the letters and figure it out. It's fun but I always have a slow start until I get truly inspired. Has anyone read Food, Inc.? It's a must read for those who truly care about where there food comes from and how it gets onto the table. Fascinating and disturbing too....See MoreJanuary - February 2011 Applique/Paper Piece Lotto
Comments (12)Thanks for the comments. As for pattern choices... my goodness they're difficult! One pp that I chose that I thought would be simple, turned out to be a nightmare to make (my apologies!). I would love to choose more complex/adult/mature patterns, but I worry about whether they would scare away beginner level quilters. Another problem I'm running into is that there are a lot fewer non-juvenile themed patterns in pp that are on free sites. And many of the applique patterns seem awfully time consuming for a lotto, though I love them.... such as floral wreath patterns. The last couple of lottos, I've tried having pp and applique in the same month so that quilters who enjoy one technique, but not the other, don't need to sit out a cycle. And it's very difficult finding TWO patterns, one pp & one applique (in the same or similar sizes) that will go together in the same project. I'll try a couple of more lotto cycles, but would definitely welcome suggestions of pattern/fabric combinations that fit the criteria I'm trying to meet each month. Thanks, Kay...See MoreJanuary blooms
Comments (16)Not much to share but this is a sprig of wandering jew that had fallen from the hanging pots at Home Depot and made it into on one of the plants I had bought a few weeks back. I just stuck it in a jar with some philodendron I was rooting and finally potted it up. It decided it wanted to bloom to thank me for rescuing it. Paperwhites I bought after Christmas on clearance. They got stuck behind the TV. They aren't as strong smelling as most paperwhites I've had. I am still waiting on my hibiscus to open up. I rescued this braided plant in about September for $5 It only had three or four leaves on any one stem.. I never got around to giving it a prune because it has been covered in blooms ever since I potted it up and gave it a little feeding. There are two different colors of blooms in the braid. I'm hoping it will quit blooming before it starts putting out new growth so I can finally give it a tip prune.. My lepismeum has blooms for the fourth time since I got it back in August. It was covered in blooms in September but fell out of the tree I had it in and broke many of the buds off. It never seems to rest. It also has berries going....See Moredaninthedirt (USDA 8b, HZ9, CentTX, Sunset z30, Cfa)
