Anyone do slow stitching?

I stumbled across it and thought it might be interesting to try.

I've been wanting to do 4 images of our pond and woods over the course of the seasons and thought maybe doing them art quilt style would be fun to try, and then I came across this. It's like a fabric collage using the colors in the fabric and the threads and stitches to create the image...painting with fabric. Similar to what NHBaskets does with her gorgeous quilts, but different in that they are much more free form and rustic.

Really interesting- a very free form additive applique with the applique less controlled, I think it would be addictive and a great use for a fabric stash.

It's not something I've done, but I would like to try it. You make me want to go search through my fabric stash !

Kelly I agree with Glen, your seeds got too wet and rotted. I have veggie gardened for over 25 years and have decided that veggie seeds, like those you are questioning, seem to like warmer weather and not as damp as it has been to sprout. Once sprouted the rains we get don't bother them, but excel their growing. I planted mine a week or so before you and there was more days dryer than wetter and all of the beans came up (even had some year old seed), 3/4 of the mellon seeds and pretty much all cukes came up. Now I need to be brave and thin them out - I am bad at that. Get some new seeds planted soon!

Also older than ... and glad to be above rather than under the ... dirt. Anyone remember 78 mm. ... no, that was r.p.m. ... records? And the needle being on a circular disk that one lifted off of the record and put up, over and back to be held in place above the arm that swung back and forth over the record but didn't move up or down? Our "Party line" phone was a big brown wooden box on the wall with a metal thing like a tulip sticking out of the front into which you talked, and a line with a black tube on the end that hung on a yoke sticking out of the side of the phone, that lifted when you took the receiver off to listen, which connected the phone to the line, by making the contacts with the large batteries inside. If you wanted to call some other person on your line, after listening to see whether the line was busy, you turned a crank on the right side to make the double bells on the front of the phone ring, in a code of short and long rings, which rang in everyone else's phone on the line, and the ones whose code it was answered ... sometimes others did, as well (almost always remaining silent while doing so). If you wanted to call someone on another party line, you pushed a black button on the left side of the phone and turned the aforementioned crank on the right side, which silenced all of the bells on your line and sent a signal to the operator on the central switchboard and she connected you to the other line and pushed a button or turned a crank to ring the code of the person to whom you wanted to talk. ole joyfuelled ... who liked eating at the dining room table ... in the large kitchen

It is along the property line, and the main leader got damaged, I cut it down, and these 4 are here now. You can see why I asked about slow growth, the original trunk was not too much taller than the 4 that sprung up, it was about 4 ft at it's tallest. I'll try what you said Bama, and see what happens.

One of my oldest friends was an excellent quilter and belonged to a sewing circle in upstate PA. It was a well organized group - they had a workspace in a empty church with 2 long arm machines, they took an annual quilting cruise and had weekend retreats. The last time I visited she showed me her latest project - Kava (Hawaiian or applique quilts). She showed me a few pillows that she had made using fabric scraps and different embroidery stitches. I think she called it slow stitching but at the time I didn't realize that it referred to a specific craft.

My local quilt/fabric store had a few kits from Wattle & Loop which were very eye catching. But I managed to refrain until I finish some of the other projects that I have been working on.

Yes, Wattle & Loop is where I first came across it...they have some interesting looking kits.

According to this beginner video, though, it's more about the stitching itself vs. the final outcome...sort of like forest bathing vs. hiking.

It is a great way to use many many stitches and applique techniques. I've only seen it used to embelish--not paint a picture as it were. That would be amazing!! I see the raw edges it often leaves and I wonder at how long it will stand up...if they are treated with no fray but then they would get stiff and gunky so I don't see how.

I feel like I'm having deja-vu - was this discussed before?

And I haven't done this, but I do teach stitchery to the elementary kids from time to time. I start them on recycled styrofoam trays with yarn, but I've used burlap too.
