Sanitize without clorox?
Comments (2)When I have to take our king-sized comforter to the laundromat, I run one of the big machines empty on hot with a double-dose of detergent (Charlie's) and a bunch of Lysol disinfectant (the small brown bottle, *not* the soapy cleaners) before I wash anything. That should clean out a lot of the bugs and goo and who knows what else!...See MoreIs it me or Clorox doesn't smell like Clorox anymore?
Comments (32)Most of you people do not understand. The issue is that some of us want tood old fashioned regular CHLORINE BLEACH that smells like it did 20-30-40-50 + years ago EVEN if you get the regular Clorox or other plain chlorine bleaches that do not have tht smell that some of us want and miss of sodium hypochlorite. of course the newfangled ”splashless” kinds dont have the scent or disinfecting ability. they are horrible. BUT the issue is we want the old great smell of real BLEACH again. it is not in any of these :...See MoreLysol Laundry Sanitizer instructions question
Comments (6)Please be aware that this product will NOT work on viruses like the Flu. The directions are also very specific, and if it is used incorrectly, it essentially does nothing. The product is inactivated if you add it at the same time as the detergent. It is also supposed to be used in the rinse cycle, and soak for a period of 16 minutes. This is nearly impossible for most machines. If you are dealing with something that truly needs to be Disinfected, the best thing to use is Regular Disinfecting Bleach. A disinfectant is a chemical that completely destroys all organisms listed on its label. The organisms it kills are disease-causing bacteria and pathogens, and it may or may not kill viruses and fungi. From a legal standpoint (EPA guidelines), disinfectants must reduce the level of pathogenic bacteria by 99.999% during a time frame of greater than 5 minutes but less than 10 minutes. A sanitizer is a chemical that reduces the number of microorganisms to a safe level. It doesn't need to eliminate 100% of all organisms to be effective....See MoreClorox non-disinfecting liquid bleach. What's up with that?
Comments (3)The splashless and scented variants are a lower concentration of sodium hypochlorite, which is the main ingredient that ‘bleaches’ items. If I remember correctly, it has to be 6.0% or higher to qualify for disinfection. As DADOES mentioned, they have been around for awhile but people do not always notice. One product I did use was Clorox Ultimate Care. It was 1% bleach if I remember correctly, but didn’t damage clothes like full strength bleach and was designed to keep clothing white. For what it is worth, I will keep using oxygenated bleaches (sodium percarbonate) with just as good if not better results....See MoreMWJ '90
