Comments (27)We have Stone Owls here. I was lucky enough to snag this pic of one while capturing this bed for this thread. The pots were moved back into the shed until Wednesday. Hopefully, our last freezing night of the Spring. 20 days before the average. Then the cleanup and planting begin in earnest. But I thought the same thing last year. I've got an early one here - Curly Fries or Pineapple Juice, I'm confused about the ID. This bed gets full morning sun until the leaf canopy fills in. Peonies, Heuchera and a few Hosta pips. The JMs are nearly invisible. The hill really drops off at the far end and to the left....See MoreHosta M 2022 .....................
Comments (33)Mbug, so many of your hostas look perfect! What is your secret, or did I ask you about this before? I mean, I don’t see one burn or slug munch or under performing plant in your photos…… Erin, that Monkey Business is really nice and love the shape and color of Marilyn Monroe. Beautiful leaf edging…. Beth, your MM is also beautiful, but has a different coloration than Erin’s……interesting … also love your mice…..I also plant mine in the ground……so many others have them in pots. If I did that I would have to overwinter them. That makes me nervous… debra...See MoreHosta P 2022 ...................
Comments (28)How special to have a hawk. Hopefully, another will move in soon. My voices tell me they are real, so there. Power of Prayer is a real standout. Pamela Lee - love the subtle color on this mini. Parisian Silk - Great color but slow grower under the maple trees. Pebble Creek Pee Dee Laughing River Piecrust Promise Place of Hope - still young, hopefully leaps this year. Potomac Glory - yes, I'm a sucker for subtle, green on green ... Prime Meridian in mid-May first Sping in the ground and June 20th - seems like a great grower for a white centered Hosta. Punky - yes, more subtlety. I'm with OD, so much P....See MoreHosta Leaves 2022 ........................
Comments (34)According to hugos database frances williams came about as a sport of a seedling. in 1936 it was a big deal to have margined hosta of interest. So it became popular. …today i would not introduce a plant with that flaw. there have been look a likes that have come after it that dont burn. From hugos database Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Award 1986 (Caroline Williams). Purchased by Mrs. Williams out of a batch of H. sieboldiana seedlings at Bristol Nursery, Connecticut in 1936. Named by G. W. Robinson of the Oxford Botanical Gardens (1963). 20" tall. Light Shade. 50-90% shade. This yellow edged sport of H. sieboldiana 'Elegans' is always at the top of the popularity list. The heavily corrugated round blue leaves are edged with a wide golden border. The 3' clumps are topped with white flowers in late spring. In areas of low humidity, or with any sun, the gold margin tends to sun scorch....See MoreRelated Professionals
