Using Different Wood Colour in Bedroom to Hallway

I'm in a predicament and need some expert advice. I have two bedrooms in carpet that I would like to change to laminate wood, for cleanliness reasons. Hallway, Open-plan living area is all Oak Bamboo Wood as seen below:

I have currently arranged for the bedrooms to be fitted in Frosted Grey laminate flooring (below), but there's still enough time to cancel/change. I've read that mixing warm and cool colour woods would look very odd next to each other and that it may be better to get lighter oak tones instead of grey. Given that there's a divider and the bedrooms are enclosed, could the grey wood look work?

I understand the best option is to have uniform colour throughout, but it is impossible to find this exact wood in stores today.

Need advice on whether two different wood floor tones can work together, is grey too far fetched? What about lighter shades of oak?

No fake wood next to real wood, and really no to two different tones even in real wood next to each.

I agree that you could use different colors for each bedroom, but not colors that are too bold or contrasting. Soft, muted shades like light sage green, light teal, light silvery blue, creamy yellow, or light apricot/peach would be fine, IMO. In my experience, it's much easier to find bedding that you like, then draw from the colors in the bedding for the paint, than to paint first, then try to find bedding to match. Or as mentioned above, draw colors from artwork you plan to use in the rooms. If you found some bedding you liked with bold colors, just paint that room in the same beige as the hallway as the focus will be on the bedding. Consider the wood tones in your furniture as well. E.g., if you have cherry or mahogany toned furniture, you might want to go with "cool" wall colors (green, blue). Natural light woods (oak, maple) are versatile with many color choices.

I can't tell from that picture exactly what the situation is. So in general I would say ... this small hallway either needs to be the color of the rest of the house or the color of the master bedroom. If you're trying to make this small hallway look like a more grand entrance into the master bedroom, or in some way part of the master bedroom to make it feel more spacious, then I would paint it the same color as the master bedroom. But if the hall way is more part of the rest of the house and can be seen from other areas of the house, then I would paint it the same color as the rest of the house and let only the actual master bedroom be in a special color. In other words, decide what part of the house this small hallway should be a part of, and then that would be the color it should be painted.

Your pictures didn't post. It's always best to keep flooring as consistent as you can throughout the house. If replacing the hallway flooring to match the bedrooms would help add consistency, you might consider adding that to your project. I have both carpet and floating laminate plank flooring in my home and really enjoy the ease of cleaning of the laminate.

To me, you have maple wood floor or birch in natural color. It shouldn't be too hard to match.

We were able to match our existing hardwood to an almost identically colored LVP. It was worth it in the end to drive around picking up boxes to bring home for samples. The little squares at the stores are not large enough to get a good read. I just had to return the boxes soon after.

@millworkman thanks, I'm not too fussed about the real/fake distinction as it's for separate rooms. Can two different tones not work even for complementary colours?

@Unique Wood Floors I get the colour comment, but if it's the same colour but different design/size/pattern would it not look like a failed match attempt?

Also, are there any examples of people who have used different wood floor colours in different rooms to good effect?

Unfortunately the gray you chose really doesn't look good with the existing. Not to mention that gray floors are a dead trend, and one that many people didn't like in the first place. Anything in the same color will be better. Even if the planks are different sizes this won't be as noticeable if the color is the same. Most people won't notice a difference in plank size, and most people aren't even back in your bedroom area.

The grey seems and odd choice, when the bamboo is a warm color. Search for a more natural color that matches a color in your bamboo.

@Sammie J thank you. An alternative choice I have is this: Quick-Step Creo 3178 Charlotte Oak White Laminate | Carpetright . It's within the oak family but a lighter tone. Could you advise?

I really don't think anything greyish will work well for your decor. We noticed a crew of designers here. I am sure they will be happy to help if you could show a couple of more pics.

I have no issue with 2 different floors or even wood next to luxury vinyl. TO be honest, I just don't like the floors you are looking at. What do the rooms look like? Also , you may want to consider nice door saddles instead of that basic trim piece to create more of a transition.

A wood tone very different so it doesn’t look like ”I tried to match but failed.”

Get something darker or much lighter in the same color family as the hallway. No gray.

Agree with littlebug, and everyone else. Don't use that grey floor. It doesn't work next to the current floor, or the door. If you can't match the current floor, go different enough to look intentional. But the colors must coordinate not clash. You can also lay the bedrooms (if possible) in a different direction than the hall. Get a sample and lay it next to the actual floor, because if you pick off photos you may get an unhappy surprise with the actual color.

So I've managed to find the exact wood type or a close enough replica here: Mega Deal Solid Rustic Birch Flooring 18mm x 90mm Natural Lacquered – Super Floors UK . But it is sold out everywhere, I'm not sure what a suitable alternative solution would be. Could using a white tone or a much lighter oak tone work alongside Rustic Birch Oak?
