Hi again, Just wanted to give a quick update on the condition of my Thanksgiving cactus. Most of the arms fell off, but it's still hanging in there so far. It's been repotted in a much smaller pot with a mix of perlite, aquarium rocks, and orchid bark, and it no longer stays outside. I'm thinking of bringing it to my office, where it should get plenty of light. Thanks for your help! :-)

Whenever my basil starts to act wonky, I always cut it down,and it grows back beautifully. I have had the same basil plant in the same pot for 10 years. Many times it has looked just like your picture. Works every time. Maybe it just needs a reboot. Also lay off the fertilizer. It may do harm than good if the plant is sick.

The pot it’s in is a glazed pot with an attached tray base with holes allowing water to flow out from the soil. I don’t let water sit in there. I do have the pot sitting on top of another tray which I fill with water. There is no way (as far as i know??) for this water to get into the soil because the pot is glazed and there are no holes through the bottom (they’re on the sides inside the attached tray). I read that it’s a good way to give the plant some more humidity. Is that not true? I like the glazed pot because it seems to hold more moisture than unglazed but not as much as plastic. The way I check the soil is just by touching it a bit below the surface. Is there a better way you’d recommend? Any ideas why the soil would look so old and deflated after only a year? I mixed in a significant amount of perlite. However greenclaws up above mentioned it looks “peaty” and sure enough i just looked it up and the base mix I used is mostly peat moss and peat hummus . What do you want in the mix instead of peat? I will look for an African violet mix. I have never found a good potting mix for this plant, I hope i can get African violet mix here. I would love to make my own potting soil but have not had luck finding the separate components. I felt lucky for finding a bag of perlite! It’s all just pre-made bagged stuff. Even at greenhouses. thank you all for your input. I wish I knew what was the primary stressor on the plant. Was it the direct sunlight? Sounds like the cold isn’t a big deal, and it wasn’t looking great even before it got cold. Is it the potting soil being all used up or whatever is wrong with it? I can repot and then put back in the room where it gets good light but protect it behind a sheer curtain. Does that sound like a good plan?

really, both my thumbs are the opposite of green. ==>> red is opposite on the color wheel ... you might want to have a dr look into that.. lol .. presuming flora's ID is right on these pix... and im not sure ive ever found her to be wrong ... take a look at some of these vids.. how to make the same plant new and young: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Syngonium+propagation&t=ffcm&iax=videos&ia=videos and after you have gotten a few going.. just get rid of the old one .. never forget.. the most important thing in a pot is the media ... and media wears out ... usually in a year or two ... leading to watering issues ... apparently yours doesnt much care.. if its been 6 years ... but that is still too old .. i would do the propagation.. and leave the old one alone.. until you succeed .. and then if you want.. repot that one then ... just a fall back i agree is starving for light ... that is why its lost old leaves .. and looks leggy if thats the term if you like your pretty pot.. find a plastic pot that fits inside it.. and use a pot in pot system ... in other words ... i agree with everything flora said ... lol .. see how that works ... and it basically doenst matter what the plant is .. same rules for everything ... except the fern.. i gave up on those about 2 years after i started playing with plants ... lifes too short .. lol .. of course.. i didnt have the web back in the stone age ... yabba dabba do ... ken
