maytag otr microwave light burns out
Comments (0)we bought this otr micro in July 2014 but took us until august to install. the light bulb that came with it burnt out/stopped working last week so i replaced it. with 1 day of non continuous use, it is not working again. anyone heard of this? i realize it could be a faulty light bulb but kind of weird. plus we use the light in half power at night and when cooking dinner so it seems like it burned out really fast. the fan is working fine as is all other functions. just thinking about uninstalling this unit and reinstalling another makes me want to cry so i am hoping it is something easy to fix...See MoreMonogram Microwave - Magnetron - dispute help needed
Comments (27)Bagh, I called Monogram (800# in your manual and the GE consumer affairs department) so many times and did not get anywhere. I also wrote a long letter and all I got was a phone call where they gave me a number to call that turned out to be to the same Monogram department. I recently got the address for the Risk Management Department that I was told handled disputes. I also went to the consumer affairs website and posted my problem. As you probably already read, I have been disputing their outrageous labor fee for replacing their faulty magnetron. Part of the reason for my dispute was the fact that GE freely told me that the magnetron in my unit had lots of problems and does not last very long. Lucky for me I refused to pay their high fee for replacing the magnetron (which was under warranty) because it broke again about 45 day later. It looks like I'll be eating the cost of the microwave b/c I refuse to pay GE to fix it out of the belief that it will keep breaking. Perhaps if enough people start to complain we might get better results. Let me know if you need any other info. I have an attorney in the family who might get involved....See MoreNeed help choosing a quality over the range microwave
Comments (9)Okay, I'm willing to be the wet blanket this time. As far as I know, there are no OTR microwaves that are great vents. If it's possible, it's better to have an OTR vent hood, and a separate microwave. There are only three (I think that's the number) makers of microwave guts, Sharp, Panasonic and someone else maybe. They make them for the other brands, including Whirlpool Corp. Kitchen Aid is part of Whirlpool corporation, so the difference is likely trim, though there might be an additional feature or three to justify a bigger price on the more expensive one. Quality-wise, they'd be pretty identical. People don't complain a lot about bad microwaves. They're actually pretty old tech (so are most vents), and just work unless something got shaking apart in moving or fried by an electrical surge or something. There's more variation if you want a microwave that is also a convection oven, or a speed oven (with combination modes). For just a microwave, you can't really go wrong getting the one that looks best to you and has the features and controls you like best....See MoreMaytag vs Samsung vs Frigidaire
Comments (11)On the subject of stove and griddle combinations, you all might find you prefer one of these griddles instead of the much smaller proprietary ones that come with some stoves. If you want first hand reviews, I bought mine in December after seeing this long thread about them on Chowhound's cookware forum and it is worth checking out. FWIW, I've found the griddle to be every bit as good as it cracked up to be in that thread by the numerous owners and, to the extent it matters to you and your husband, it has a good deal more usable cooking space than the proprietary ones. You did not say if you were looking for gas or electric ranges, but I can offer a couple of points that might affect your choosing a Maytag range. First, IIRC, the Maytag double-oven ranges have regular high-heat self-cleaning oven functions but the single oven versions (like almost all single oven Whirlpool products) offer only the much maligned "Aqualift" cleaning cycles. If you are looking at Maytag (or other Whirlpool ranges with Aqualift self cleaning, I suggest you go out to google/ask/bing/whatever and use this search string: "aqualift + gardenweb." Read the threads you find. Second, if you are looking at the double-oven gas Maytags, be aware that you cannot manually light the stovetop burners during power outages, if that matters to you. If you are considering a single-oven Maytag, be sure to download the user guides and check for instructions on lighting with matches. If the user guide does not have instructions on how to do it, then that is one of the stoves which prevent lighting during power outages....See Moredadoes
