Hosta B 2022......................
Good start everyone. We are warming up here now getting back to normal temps. This was a hard freeze for me, we usually do not get this cold for so long. I guess, even covered, that I am not a Plumeria grower anymore. But the Hostas are loving it. Let's see some Bs today:

Summers Distinguished Merit Award 1986 (Caroline Williams). Purchased by Mrs. Williams out of a batch of H. sieboldiana seedlings at Bristol Nursery, Connecticut in 1936. Named by G. W. Robinson of the Oxford Botanical Gardens (1963). 20" tall. Light Shade. 50-90% shade. This yellow edged sport of H. sieboldiana 'Elegans' is always at the top of the popularity list. I ordered that one but it will take time to get to the size of yours….. Terry, all three of yours look terrific! After looking in the HL I agree that the one labeled BM, is not. I am no expert, but it seems to lack the puckering, any blue and the wax coating that can be seen in most pictures. That said, it is described as having “leaves (that are) a light blue, cordate and have excellent substance.” Nearly slug proof. Also checking the flowers when it blooms may help. It has pale lavender flowers that bloom early and are floriferous. Hosta Size 54X48. I haven’t seen you in the forum before, WELCOME if you are new! So I am not sure how familiar you are with the Hosta Library. But, in case you aren’t….. on the front page there are 3 columns under the alphabet. First column, second row you will see “Rawson’s Lists.” The lists group hostas into all kinds of categories. Blue, green, margined, sun tolerant etc. You could print the page for green hostas and when you have time, look through the library and see if any hosta looks like yours. Tedious, but worth the effort perhaps. Beth, you also have some nice giants….Fried Green Tomatoes is huge! Looks like your biggest one! I’m impressed with the height of Komodo Dragon’s petioles….and the leaves are so nice and rippled. I envy your flowers on Sum & Substance…..so prolific. Bridal Falls was too close to my maple. She got rescued to a pot and recovered well.

shout out to don rawson for that bloodline pic, it pays to have a really nice camera to capture the correct color. his is very nice.
bloodline gets better with age, even when the blush fades the next benefit is a nice august bloom display.

5 months agoSherry I have Bloodline but the pics are first year and this later one iss from after I moved it because it was burning from too much sun. Also I was focusing on the flower bud.

i am the authority on bloodline since i created it.
that picture is the original clump, its 6 years old from seed.
it is my longest lasting blusher so far.
here in mn it gets pretty hot in july
here it is in early august.
Most of the blush is gone.
i have theories on why they do what they do, i think mainly it has to do with plants sugars.
early on is available in the leaf where later is directed to the scape and flower.

it should get that large as well. i gave the whole plant up so the lab could get the best margin out of it. i got one back last year so i am starting over to. i only had a few pictures.
i think this was its 4th or 5th year before bob took it.
i am looking forward too seeing it large again. A spring pic.
