Peas are dying from bottom

Hello everyone,
I am a beginner gardener. I planted peas 3 weeks ago. They are growing but the bottom leaves started to be brown then shrink and die. I don't know what is wrong with them. Can anyone help please?

My first question would be what type of soil are they planted in? Looks like wood shavings at least on top.

This is typical of many of these in Florida. The hot, humid conditions lead to several diseases, with Cercosporidium causing lower foliage to die like this. The only thing you can do is to make sure there is no irrigation water hitting the foliage, apply fungicides and also use granite pebbles as a mulch to prevent rainsplash and increase drying of the foliage..

David, unfortunately my recent checks about a month ago weren't helpful in identifying this fungal pathogen, so it continues to devastate trees and shrubs. Not just blue spruce trees are affected, but so are maple trees and oaks, and people around here are having many of them cut down. Just last month my two neighbors had 5 of these large trees cut down. Mountain ash trees are dying too. And I'd say that 50% of the white pines in this area (southern New Hampshire) are either dead or in decline from this disease. I don't spray mine since I consider them somewhat of a weed, and mine are slowly and continuously losing needles. I expect them to die within a few years. The good news is that this year I've kept up spraying with Mancozeb every two weeks since May 1st. Every tree and shrub I've sprayed (where my spray can reach the foliage) is very healthy. I'm now also working on my grown son's 4 dying spruce trees to see if I can restart growth on the now bare trunk and on other branches. But don't try a "ground drench" with Propiconazole - I tried that last year and it killed off beneficial ground bacteria, harming the trees & shrubs. Fortunately, they're recovering this year with fertilizer and spraying. Norway spruce and linden trees seem to resist this disease best.

I know about the peas -- that's what peas do at this time of year. They like cool roots - that's why we plant them in very early in the spring. By the time hot weather hits, they are thinking about retirement ( which is what I do every summer, too!) You can slow the process by keeping the roots cool. Hill up the soil about an inch or two higher around the stems, water them regularly, and mulch all round. You can sometimes scare a second crop out of them by pinching off the growing tip, forcing the plant to branch, but sometimes the hot weather ruins that plan. As for the corn, trust your Mother (Nature). The silks will be there when it's time for the pollen to drift down on them.

"The soil is a succulent mix from Lowe's with a mixture of fluffy, airy soil and sand. I've had this plant for a year and a half and it's doing this out of nowhere." Your description of the soil leads me to believe that you have a peat based mix...an absolute no-no for succulents. If it is all you can get, then it is suggested to mix it at least 50/50 with perlite, preferably going heavier on the perlite. My guess is that the peat has compacted around the root system of the plant creating a concrete like ball that is not allowing water to the roots. You water, it comes out the bottom of the pot, but it traveled around the perimeter of the mix, never penetrating the root ball. So, you think the decline is sudden when, really, your plant has slowly been dying and you are just seeing the results now. I would unpot and check the roots, then get back to us. I hope I'm wrong. I can't see from your picture, but you should understand that the cotyledons, or seed leaves, which are the first ones to come out, don't last long. They usually start to dry up after the first true leaves emerge.

It's a potting soil mix from a store. It contains peatmos,perlite,humic acid,vermiculite,vegan compost.I use wood shavings as mulch @vgkg Z-7 Va

Assuming these are in a pot and you are growing in a warm climate, they are probably too wet. Do these get direct sun?

Yes they are in a pot but the weather is not warm/it is around 20 celsius during the day and around 13 celsius during the night/they get around 4 hours direct sunlight as the sky is cloudy and no rains/do you think it is a fungal infection?... @robert567

With only 4 hours of sun then the lower leaves may be fading out due to them being shaded by the upper leaves. If it spreads upward then the plant may have a fungal problem. The soil mix sounds ok, just be easy on the watering since a low light/heat situation won't dry them out very fast. Finger test the soil for moisture, it shouldn't need watering too often.
