Hey Toots, Pls. remember they're jungle cacti, they WANT water when active. I'd say check all the way down in the mix w/ a pencil or thin knife. (Like testing a cake for doneness), if the pencil comes out w/ mix on its tip there's still some moisture down below. I'd say as long as you're careful to check, if they dry out in 4, 5 days, maybe give them more water. Or if you're really unsure, maybe mist the mix when you feel you want to water again? I water mine (in a west window) every wknd, maybe every 10 says when I forget. In summer I water maybe every 5 days or so.

Hello Linda, best to start a thread of your own if you want good replies as this thread is over 6 yrs old! Ppl don't always bother to reply to such old threads. Also, we need to know exactly what you are referring to as bulbs don't grow into flowers! Do you means buds I guess so! Take a pic and upload it so we can see your plant, it helps. Also go tour your profile and add some of your location info like we try to do, that's always useful. You don't say if it is a Christmas cactus, I'm guessing not as they aren't often seen, they get mistaken for other types of holiday cactus, plus it's the wrong time of year for a CC to be flowering! The plant needs more phosphorous. What do you fertilize it with? If you want more blooms than growth, you need a fertilizer with a larger middle number. Also, a crape myrtle that is planted in a heavily fertilized lawn will often do this, because it is getting too much nitrogen. Look at those planted along roadways. They are never fertilized and they bloom like crazy. Crape myrtles really do thrive on neglect. Also, they like to be dry, so if a sprinkler is hitting them all the time, they sometimes will put out vegetative growth and not bloom well.

Pls read the link & then experiment. You could also take several cuttings to try in different parts of your home. I currently have an experiment going of growing them in a tiny bit of water, no soil.
