Walk-In Closet: Accessible from bathroom or just bedroom?
Comments (14)Never a problem at any house with the closet access from the bathroom. The toilet has never been close to the closet. Separate WC, too in 4 homes I've lived in (3 of those I had built). My current renovation, there is no separate WC, but the toilet is 20 feet away from the closet. I have no closet access from the master bedroom because that would require 3 doors (entry, closet, bath) in the master....See MoreHelp! Closet/wardrobe inside of bathroom
Comments (4)So does one square equal one foot? 2 foot doorways? Yikes! Hate to tell ya, but I dont think that's legal. I would put a small 3 x 3 shower where the tub is, so you can reduce bathroom to 6 ft wide x 8 ft (incl shower). Use a twin or I think there are these super singlest that are 48 inch wide. PUSH bed to the right, so head is where you have closet now. Put closet down at the other end in corner where desk is. Put desk to the LEFT of the door as you come in (or to right as you're going on). Youll have to give on some of the components - what you have now wont fit....See MoreDesigning a master bathroom with separate walk-in closets
Comments (53)Work on that reading comprehension. Here is a recap of everything you've contributed to this thread... - How do you plan on keeping humidity out of the clothes closet - I have seen people smoking a cigarette while filling their car's gas tank with no problem, - I would think every one knows smoking while pumping gas is not recommended, - I have had clients that have walked through the master bathroom in stocking feet to get something from the master closet and have to also retrieve a dry pair of socks to put on in the bedroom because they stepped in the water unintentionally left on the bathroom floor. - You should get out more. - Moisture and odor are always potential issues, even in my sheltered little life. - Do you want me to teach you to read or do you want me to repeat what has been written? The answer to your very first question was quite obvious, even to a layman, let alone an experienced "professional" such as yourself. The "plan to keep humidity out of the clothes" is three-fold...1) An exhaust fan that extracts moist air from the bathroom, 2) Clothes separated from the bathroom with solid walls/doors, 3) Locating closet ~15 ft from the shower. None of your responses make it clear why you are so fixated on this particular issue in virtually EVERY thread you post in....See MoreBedroom Reno - Make Bathroom Larger and Create a Walk-in Closet
Comments (8)I don’t see why that plan couldn’t work, if that’s what you want to do and your contractor OKs the reorienting of your plumbing. I’m a person that likes a little more intimate bedroom (and hotel room) spaces, so I don’t see anything wrong with an 11 x 14 space plus reading alcove, etc.— but this would be on smaller side of an en suite which might be a resale consideration. I’m guessing your bath is a standard 5’ x 8’? My proposal was to flip that on its axis, keeping a 5x8 but orienting it (and walk-in) vertically on the plan, which theoretically would eat up 3 feet from existing bedroom. The ‘vestibule’ entry on my quick sketch was to give the room some more privacy from a public area, but it could allow you to also carve out a foyer closet there if desired (not shown on my sketch). But to your point, this is not necessary to achieve what you’re going for and potentially more $$ than it’s worth (but if crown molding is your only concern, that could likely be easily bypassed by having an arched doorway leading into ‘vestibule’ area). FWIW- I’m a serial home renovator with a number of projects done for myself, friends and family— but I’m not a ‘pro’. Your project doesn’t seem overly complicated but you’ll want a knowledgeable contractor with some in-house design chops....See Morechispa
