Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/20
Comments (19)Congratulations @yeonassky and @Funkyart on the losses! I'm also sorry that you've been sick, Funky. I hope you feel back to 100% soon! @jmck_nc glad to have you chime in. It's been great to have this supportive group for all of us. My weight is still hanging in just a pound or two above the goal weight I hit at the end of summer. I'm not going up further, but I'm not getting it back down to that level either. I'm still doing IF 5:2. I think am stress snacking on my 5 "normal" days, so I am going to work on being more mindful about that. My husband was quite sick last week so that altered some of my eating as well since I was trying to accomodate his needs. The good news is that I think all of this work to improve the health of my digestive system seems to be working because I don't seem to have gotten sick. Last week I missed two days of exercise, but I'm not going to feel guilty about it. One day my husband needed help with things before and after work and I just ran out of time. The other day was the service for the child in my family who passed away and I underestimated how draining that would be. Afterwards I came home and curled up and couldn't get myself to go exercise. But I'm back at it going strong this week. During one of my swims this week I chatted with a friend and he had some drills he's been trying out so I tried them out the next time and woah did that give me a good workout. I really struggled lifting weights this morning with my shoulders and back so tired from the swim yesterday. I even managed to force myself out running in a light snowstorm today despite my laziness screaming in my ear about getting cold and how much nicer it would be inside the house under a blanket. Now I have the benefit of seeing my dog completely passed out from the exertion. For Thanksgiving, I'm going to stay in my home town and eat with my parents and sibling who are gluten free and vegetarian capable cooks. Unfortunately this means my husband and I will be apart for the holiday since he is going to his mother's home which is 4 hours away from our house. He's driving from a completely different state (due to his work) and so if I want to go, I'd have to drive there alone. My family tends to cook fairly healthy, so I'm looking forward to the food. I will try to be reasonble in my portions, but I'm not going to stress about it too much. I will be eating pie. :) On a clothing note, I ordered several dresses in preparation for the service for the child who passed away. I ended up keeping several of them because I think they will be good additions to my wardrobe in the future as well. But the biggest thing for me was feeling like there were several good options that actually fit my body. With my weight going up and down over the years, I was definitely at a high weight and low morale at the beginning of this year. Being able to work with my doctor to make a plan and stick to it to really get fit has been so rewarding. I am more physically capable of being active. And it sounds vain, but having clothes fit well really helps my morale. I even ended up order one more dress that I found on sale that is not for a funeral but I ordered it anyway and I feel fabulous in it. I never would have picked something like this a year ago. This is a picture of the dress (on a model, not on me)....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/5/2023
Comments (33)Sue, any time I get called back for an ultrasound following a mammogram it’s unnerving. I’m sure they told you it’s pretty common but also know that doesn’t help your state of mind. I’ll be thinking about you this week. I’m trying to pick up the pace of my walks because a newer study says the cadence of one’s stride as well as the number of steps taken each day are positively correllated with better cardiovascular health and lower mortality. Continuing to eat healthfully and mindfully… my evening snack is now either a yoghurt or six almonds and six dried tart cherries. I went shopping with my mother yesterday and bought a sweater in a size small and was so pleased until I remembered I recently bought a down coat in size XL from Uniqlo to allow a heavy sweater underneath. Sizing really is ALL over the place! (Funky, i bought this coat because it’s more flat than puffy and one of the reviewers said it was the only coat she tried on that didn’t make her feel like she was wearing a duvet 😁 And I finally figured out why I don’t like down coats with the quilting baffles on the diagonal—- it looks like the underside of a turtle! ) Sorry for the aside!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/26/2023
Comments (7)I thought I was doing ok-- steady and mostly healthy diet-- but I have to acknowledge that the pounds I have been "up" the last few times are not normal fluctuations but increased weight. This is the first since I've started losing weight that I have a net increase in weight (vs the normal fluctuations). I am not happy about it but I do know where they've come from ... while maintaining a pretty decent diet otherwise, I have allowed some chips and other savory snacks in. I have also not been making soup as religiously. Soup is really THE easiest way for me to stay on track. This next month will be about keeping a lean diet most days and increasing my walking/exercise so that I can have small indulgences at holiday gatherings and on my trip. I could whine and pout and complain -- but I did this to myself. I know where I was too loose. I need to be more serious. I need to get excited to lose the next 10! Part of my strategy to get excited and focused is getting my hair done -- I know that doesn't make any sense lol but when I am looking good, I tend to work harder on all aspects of my appearance and health. Oh yeah -- and I am going back to weighing daily. Apparently being obsessed with the scale helps keep me accountable! How are you all doing?...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/24/2023
Comments (12)So far I have stayed on track with exercise and food goals, expecting myself to eat more during the past week but managing to stay well within the “margin of error” for my weight. I’ve cooked more good meals (including desserts) in the past six days than I have in months. The weather has been warm and I’ve doubled up on walking the dogs and guess that has helped. DD and fam will be with us this weekend so soon I will be running around after a one year old for extra exercise. I too have been giving away food, including but not limited to holiday scones, blueberry pie, fudge and cheese straws. Those last two were made and given by relatives, delicious but too dangerous to remain in the house! DH has gained six lbs since Thanksgiving and is fretting....See MoreFunkyart
