What is the Most 'Unique'.....
Comments (5)We have many cemeteries here, some large and some quite small. Those of particular religious affiliation as well. Our oldest cemetery, what is still in use, dates back to about 1835. Actually I know it is even older, because my eighth great grandfather is buried there, and he was born a subject of the crown, before the revolution. He died in 1832, shortly after immigrating to this area. The old stones often were decorated with certain details or insignia, and they all had meaning. Next to his grave is that of one g'daughter, Arianna who died as a small child. Her stone is simply a statue of a lamb. This is a typical stone for a child's grave. There is a potter's field in all of the public cemeteries here and I do have a relative or two in them I found when searching. Those folks often have no stones at all, unless they were veterans and the government furnished them. But one sees homemade monuments. Some simple rocks with carved inscriptions. Some wooden crosses with painted names. Many of the stones in other areas replete with whole poems of hope. I make greenery memorials and floral memorials in my business. I make them decorated to order and many family ask me to incorporate items special to the lives of their departed. Christmas is a poignant time of year, as they come to place their order, especially when it's for a child. I've placed dogs and deer, teddy bears and birds. Toys and pinwheels, flags and angels. I'm priveledged to be an owner/operator because I can stop in the privacy of our greenery house and LISTEN. They all come with stories and more than once I've cried as I made them....See MoreMaximize seating in small, uniquely shaped living room
Comments (18)I'd make the small area on the left a storage/ closet with mirrored front door and add molding. Absolutely do a bench seat with storage at the window. Round table ( with leaf expansion). Bench that doubles as coffee table or bench at the table. small but comfortable couch on the long wall (left). A few chairs and a small occasional table. Don't forget to add wheels to the table so it's easy to clean and move for parties. Should seat up to 9 adults with this configuration. Make sure the bench/ table is at least 18" wide and either 6' long or 2 sets of 4' in length. Don't forget to hang curtain rods height above the window for a more spacious feel. Add a chandelier to the window area that is moveable ( chain hooks). This should give you versatility. Good luck!...See MoreReveal:: Unique layout white kitchen
Comments (33)MrsShayne: Thank you, I was planning to do polished chrome the entire time, but I wanted to pull in rustic touches. Once the floor was in, I knew I could pull off the antique bronze handles. On the glass doors I did glass knobs with bronze detail and that was able to tie it in. AvatarWal: The closet in total is 44", 10" for brooms and 33.5" for pantry. I could actually use MORE pantry and would have opted to not have the brooms in there at all, although it seemed like plenty to start with. JXA44, Aktillery, barista9: Thank you SO much, that means alot. It was difficult for me to picture the kitchen finished since there are no kitchens with this layout....See MoreUnique Dining Room: How to Finish out lighting/wall decor/color
Comments (45)Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood. I still do like those rooms and would consider them inspirational, at least partly. I am working around a few constraints for the room so maybe that accounts for the differences? - I need to find a chandelier that has a single round canopy, due to the way our ceiling is. In searching for a chandelier, it's been hard to find something that I think works with the room and has a single round canopy. - I really like the paned mirror in the first inspo room, but I'm looking to put one of those in the foyer. - I would like to find an affordable table that looks like the first inspo pic. I'm searching a local store's inventory for the table and chairs to find something we could potentially really get (and afford) instead of incorporating a picture of the *perfect* table that I don't know the make/price of. - I would also like to use parsons chairs for all of the seats, but I already have two and doubt I'd be able to match them easily to another 6. I think a contrasting chair type would be a better fit because of that. In the second insp pic I like how the room is generally neutral but has subtle color to it. I like the lantern light fixtures in that room but realize they won't work for my space. I also like the artwork in the room and I could use something like in my room in place of the circular mirrors. For my room, I knew I wanted to find a rug with a neutral base that had a few bits of accent color. The accent colors in the rug shown in the mock-up might be more vivid than I pictured in my mind, but I think they work. I also like the idea of an oriental rug that's not so traditional. I hope that helps explain?!? Maybe those rooms aren't exact inspirations. I'm still on the lookout for room designs to help guide me. My unusual dining room doesn't make it easy to compare online dining rooms to my own....See MoreLars
