Wow, Still lynski...you make a great point too! BTW-This is why I am awful on a jury. As the prosecution speaks, i am thinking "Fry the ba$tard!" Then the defense gets up and I think "OMG, this poor defendant has been framed!" If I hear good points and reasons, I can be easily swayed. Everyone here has made a GREAT point. I guess I have a lot to digest and think about. I love this forum because I have quickly learned my gut instinct/first choice is not always the correct way. Before the internet and forums like this I also learned my gut/first choice was wrong, but only through trial and error. But I don't want it to look too contrived. Also, toward the end of the hall, I would need a runner (the 3rd/last runner) but there are a bunch of doors at the end of the hall...my master and guest bath on the right, and DD's room, guest room on the left. I definitely do not want to mess with the grading at all. Not my plan. However, I have such a tiny yard that I’d rather this not look like a complete eye sore. I do use the gate often because the water spigot is on the other side of the gate. That’s why I would like a little path instead of some sorts. Grass clearly is not an option, and I have always envisioned rock, mulch, ground covering with some ferns and hostas.

Have you considered entirely removing the door from the hallway entrance? That gives you more flexibility with sizes. I really prefer "C" but much will depend on what you can find that is ready to go, especially if you're looking at antique rugs. I would not worry if the area in front of the bedroom door were just flooring. Here's a company provided by "This Old House" for a squeak stopping kit. Check it out and see if your husband could work with it. Maybe someone you know could send it to you if they don't ship overseas.

WHAT ??? Where is this in the home? I think I would get a cabinet maker to build a perfect fit cabinet with 2 doors and any depth you want . The doors would then be only 18" each so should not conflict with the other doors
