Large bath window with telephone pole

We are trying to order window coverings for this modern master bathroom. The window has 5 panels each about 25 inches (including casing) so window is 129” from end to end.
I know this is a lot to ask but ideally we’d like:

Privacy
To be able to see sky and mountains
Ability to hide the telephone pole

Initially we wanted a top/down bottom/up shade for each of the 5 windows that face the mountains, but Hunter Douglas Duette blinds cannot be made this small.
Appreciate any thoughts or advice.

You might have to change companies to get the shades you need.

One option for privacy is to put frosted window film on the lower part of the windows. Some of it is cling, so you can remove it easily and it's cheap, so you can try it out and if it's not working for you, do something else.

You would still be exposed if some worker ever climbed that pole, though.

My question is: My pole building is already up 15’x40x20 has deck in the front a concrete floor but it is all opened because the motorhome goes underneath It. I want to convert it to a guess house. How do I start from. Some builders already said it can not be don. I say it can!

I'm in a rural area (think bugtussle...) and in a hurricane zone. the last round of hurricanes shifted the cell towers so that the previously excellent cell reception went to having to leave the property to get reception. stayed that way for 3 years. my sister who lives in the front of the property and gets the phone service through internet had to come to my house to use the land line. and to cook & bathe as I have propane for both stove & water heater. while I have phones that are not corded I keep an old style phone, base with receiver attached with cord, for the times that the electricity is out. somehow the phone works even if electricity is out... this is my 'go to' phone for those times. also I have dsl, so I need the phone connection. in this very rural area, 911 tracing calls from cell phones just doesn't work, unless you can give them the address. for those reasons, I'll keep the land line. even if internet connection changed in my life time...the land line stays. I have a friend nearby that had an aneurism. her husband called from the cell phone & was told to call back from the land line & leave phone off the hook. dunno why...but time was of the essence for his wife. for the nominal cost of a landline plus unlimited long distance...it is worth it to me. for peace of mind & internet. my old old friend who now lives in Miami called me last night. we talked for 5+ hours. on my landline, his cell battery gave out on one cell & we continued the marathon on his second cell phone. old school..yeah guess so. I'll keep the landline, but then I'm don't feel that I need a smart phone either. I'm perfectly capable of setting my tstat while in house. I'm a huge fan of keeping it simple in my own life/home. interesting thread.

Hi Monica, Thanks for your feedback. Right, recirc hot water results in instant hot water. There are two ways to do it: (1) add a crossover device to the furthest fixture or (2) run a return line from the furthest device back to a pump at the water heater. I had the walls open, so I did #2 (pump: Grundfos). Though it saves on water, the cost of equipment and installation and additional energy usage makes the main benefit convenience rather than cost savings. I would not tile without a laser -- they are not expensive and I like perfection. I use the Craftsman 2-beam, self-leveling laser level, $85 at Sears. For lasering walls, I clamp the laser base to a ZipWall pole and move the laser up and down the pole, as needed -- a good enough system for occasional use. For large format tile, be sure your surface is absolutely f-l-a-t. Good luck with your project!

The issues with the utility pole are obtaining the legal right to use its “new” location (pole placement plus possible overhead or underground easement on an adjoining property for your service drop) plus having having enough clearance etc. to install the new pole and your service drop in accordance with the National Electric Safety Code and any local requirements. If you aren’t moving the pole very far, re-engineering the distribution line may be least of your problems - or not, depending on the situation. If you are lucky the pole can be moved along an existing utility or city right of way, leaving only the service drop issue. This is such a production you may be hard pressed to find anyone at the utility that will take it on and you may not even be able to get the public utility regulatory body to help you if the utility tells you “no way”. You will probably have to hire an attorney and possibly an electrical consultant to take care of everything except physically moving the pole. Before you do that, you need to make sure the utility will actually move the pole if you put all the necessary pieces together and they agree you have done what is required. You do have the leverage of becoming a new customer, but that may not be enough to overcome this logistical nightmare. The fire hydrant is almost worse, because you have similar issues but are likely dealing with a municipal entity that isn’t getting any benefit from all the effort. And as another commenter pointed out, you also have to squeeze water and sewer in there somehow.

You should disguise the pole OUTdoors. My favorite is a clump of towering pampas grass. Plant it between the house and the pole. If the pole needs servicing, technicians can trample the grass and it will grow right back.

Where are you located? What a wonderful view! My suspicion is that you are on a second or third floor on a hill and have no way of using foliage to cover the pole! Are your blind options limited by your location? (In other words, you only have access to one brand of product?). Your idea of individual blinds for your windows is a good one. Operation of each one every time you want privacy might become an issue. What about looking into a notarized blind or two or three (depending on the width of your windows) so that when privacy is required (at night when your light is on, or there are people working on your power lines!) you need only hit one button?

There are all kinds of window film designs and I’d try that route. Find a design you love and Etsy has some nice ones.

Thank you all for your comments. Yes, we are on the second floor, so would be difficult to grow grass that tall let alone hang clothes - haha! It would be lovely to grow a vine over the pole though the base is not on my side of the property. @ptreckel thank you for appreciating our view. We are on Oahu and the mountain range is so pretty, especially when there are clouds and rainbows! I don't want to frost the glass for that reason. I think the best advice is to look for a shade company that can make individual shades that narrow, as the company here who quoted me only suggested Hunter Douglas as being able to do a top/down bottom/up option. Appreciate any other company recommendations for T/D B/U, narrow shades!
