Rewiring/Modify Light Type in Ceiling Fan
Comments (1)Below is a picture of the light bulb section of my fan. I think this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I might even convert it to Halogen if I can't make the LED light work. I need a good amount of light out of 2 of the fans - one fan we only need a small amount of light so LED would probably be fine......See MoreCan pushbutton light switches be rewired to modern code?
Comments (12)I expect you'll be able to re-use the visible parts, perhaps even including the botton covers. Keeping old materials is always a good thing, but if you need to replace the "guts" of the switches with modern equipment, don't hesitate. There's absolutely no need to have un-safe wiring or switches just for historical accuracy. Unless you also want to have only hand-drawn four-man fire pumpers used to extinguish any fires. Leather fire buckets can also still be purchased at antique stores....... (just kidding!) Hope the appraisal comes in on the right side of the money and you get your house! Comments (2)No issue at all, and if any wires are shorter than needed you can extend them with pigtails. Pigtails do not count in box fill, but that does not mean they may not make the box harder to work in or a tight fit. Most of the time the pigtails are held as short as possible to avoid crowding the box and use the smallest wire nuts allowed for the wire size. It can get to be a real problem to push everything into the box sometimes, especially if there are any dimmers present. Dimmers while much larger than snap switches, still incur the same volume limit in boxes....See Morere-wireing halogen light
Comments (4)Sorry , I can't post pictures. As for the lamp it is solid brass and it was expensive so I don't want to just throw it away. Details are: has a 'eye w/ off on switch' in the middle of the pole. Bought a new 'light' but it still won't work. (halogen ,,I have been told get very hot) so I'm trying to convert it. Has electric to the off/on switch but not to bulb. I'm thinking the 'eye' isn't working?? Knowing nothing about this is the problem. Lamps are easy to rewire so I'm thinking that if I just pull all the wires and do a total would be best. Thought I could save the eye and off/on switch but will have to check into that. I know I could take it in and have it done but I'd like to save $$ on that. Anymore ideas will be welcomed. Thanks...See Morew0lley32
