Comments (4)Lilypad, I can get a visual on it now, the fierce competition if those plants were offered for sale. And I would want to be right in the middle of it. My first exposure to a violet show was by happenstance. The Seattle AV club had a show at a local shopping mall. If the plant was for sale after the show, a colored dot was put on its card. I was apparently one of the few that asked about what the dot meant. Most of the plants were not spoken for, and I think I purchased 20-22, hard to remember. Average price was 5-6.00, and they couldn't be picked up til the show was over. Yeehaw! Barbara...See MoreWhat perennials do you wish you had never planted?
Comments (25)My NEVER AGAIN list includes: adenophora, snow on the mountain, lamb's ears, japanese artimesia. I think the "cherry bells" are pretty, but they came up everywhere so I yanked them! I actually have had no trouble with a lot of the plants you all have chosen here. No prob with daisies, mock orange, astrantia, bee balm, astilbe, etc. Have had absolutely NO luck with foxgloves, coreopsis "early sunrise" and "limerock ruby", or gaillardia "burgundy". My oriental poppies do well, but I, too am thinking they are not worth the trouble. I pulled my lady's mantle this year, with limited garden space I prefer "showier" plants. Some of you got my "Always Afternoon" daylilies because they were an off color in my soil, I am also pulling my "black eyed stella", and possibly a couple more, same reason as lady's mantle. There are others I have difficulty growing, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. Linda...See MoreWhat do you wish you'd never planted (2)?
Comments (128)Dottie, if you check in, I'm still out here, just been real busy with the new place. I moved a little closer to you. The new place is in the Woodhall subdivision across the street from the new Marvin schools. I have to go in search of the cord that connects my camera with the computer so I can download pictures for you. With 4 acres I can say that I'll never be done here, but that is a good thing! I am trying my hand at veggie gardening for the first time this year, I put in some raised beds for asparagus, strawberries, tomatoes (of course), cucumbers, peppers, corn, beans and melons. And I planted a mini orchard with a dozen dwarf fruit trees last fall. Unfortunately, the drought claimed the fig and three varieties of cherries, but the surviving trees must be pretty tough cause they survived with only minimal water (none from me). Did you ever ID that pretty little yellow flower that bloooms in late summer along all the local roads? I think you mentioned that it was in the woods behind your place. Do you still attend the garden club? I've heard rumor of one in Waxhaw but can't seem to find out where or when they meet....See MoreHow often do you wash your hair? How about never?
Comments (54)I also really love the Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo, it's dirt cheap and doesn't harm my very delicate fine hair. I just stumbled upon it too. I had bought it for my husband and he didn't use it so I had this huge bottle and used it and was surprised at how well it did for my fine hair and plus, it doesn't make my scalp itch, that has become an issue for me. I also found a conditioner that I love, it's Martix Biolage, the detangling one. Finally, a conditioner that doesn't make my scalp itch AND actually takes the tangles out of my insanely tangle prone hair. I used to shampoo daily because I styled my hair every day. Now, I just put it in a ponytail and call it done. I wash my hair about every third day now. I'd be very afraid to put baking soda in my fragile hair...I'm sure it would destroy it. I once (ONE TIME) used Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile to wash my hair and it damaged it so badly that it had to grow out before it was normal again. UGH! I'm lucky that I have hair, don't get me wrong, but my hair is very weird! My scalp is also very oily...so I cannot go very long without washing. Three days is pushing it and I can only pull it off because I wear it in a ponytail. I also can't stand the smell of stinky hair...UGH! It gets stinky after a couple days. That's when I know it's time to wash!...See Moreglenda smith
