White kitchen, white and blue tile-- help with countertop color
Comments (35)On the wait until later train of thought: in the time between now and when you'll reno this kitchen, hang out here and find out all kinds of interesting stuff. You'll definitely not want to repeat the electrical switches and outlets which stick out like sore (& mismatched!) thumbs on the tile backsplash. You'll find alternatives here. You'll probably want your new cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling - check out others' kitchens to be sure. You can participate in agonizing over which granite, or maybe quartz, or soapstone, or laminate? Is there room for a pantry somewhere? You'll find things that others' do that you love and never would have thought of and things that you'll *know* you'd never want in your kitchen. For your husband to answer the question about why you'd want to replace those cabinets, there was a thread recently about WHEN it was time. I've linked it in case you missed it or want him to read it. Here is a link that might be useful: Time to replace cabinets?...See MoreWhere can I find undulated, crackled white subway tiles?
Comments (1)I believe Emser Tile (Cape Cod I think??) has what you are looking for. At one time I had over 25 samples of crackle subway tile samples so I am pretty familiar. LOL C & P for a picture of it in another GW'ers kitchen. Fifth or sixth reply down. I'm on my iphone and it won't let me enter a clickable link. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg030042454777.html...See MoreWhere to find tile like this in cream/bisque AND white
Comments (7)Johnson Tile makes a line of white and biscuit tiles -- you can get 3 x 6, 4 x 8 and 4 x4. You can get plain or crackle. We used the 3 x 6 biscuit crackle in the powder room and the 4 x8 plain white in the master. The tiles are very flat like the original subway tiles. They are machine made so priced less than hand made, but they have a nice quality which is almost like hand made. There is a nice choice of skirting tile, chair rails and cap tiles. The line is the "Studio" collection within the Johnson Minton Hollins collection. It is a UK company but they have a major distribution warehouse in New Jersey and they are sold through many tile stores. The entire brochure is viewable at the Johnson website....See MoreWhere can I find white field tile in 5x5 size?
Comments (1)If you had to, could you use a thin liner type tile to frame each blue tile? I am not sure if that would make it an odder size... I guess it would depend on the width of the liner. If you have many blue tiles, the cost would skyrocket, so it would be best to find more European tiles for the field. White 13 cm x 13 cm could be easy to find if you don't look at US made tiles......See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
