Comments (68)There are so many false ideas promoted in the posting by Springroz. I have pursued physical fitness for 4 decades. I won't even attempt to link all the articles that de-bunk the loss of femininity due to exercise and weight lifting. There are too many to list. Just do a Google search on Testosterone and women. We have it and we need it and we can't do without it. As far as the idea of reducing movement to increase weight loss. I can't let this pass without citing at least one link. Again please do your research. There isn't ANYTHING worse for the human body than reduced movement and exercise. Comments (26)I am very careful with mascaras and eyeliners/eye pencils-- I have always been but became vigilant after I had 2 eye surgeries and learned how vulnerable our eyes are to bacteria. I have never worn mascara regularly (leaky and sensitive eyes) but I do use eye pencils and liquid liners. I have blush that is probably 10 yr old.. with the exception of one where the color turned, all seem to be fine. Liquid foundation is well protected and since I wear the same stuff almost all the time, they never last more than a year once opened. Same with lip gloss/lipsticks. They just don't last long enough for me to be concerned. Where I have issues is with skincare products-- I noticed my neutrogena rainbath body oil turned-- the scent makes it obvious. I also noticed a color change in one of my moisturizers. I don't track how long I've had them but I toss them at the first sign that something is "off". It helps that I basically stay with the same products through the years-- I will try new stuff but as the thread detailing in excruciating detail my hunt for my holy grail foundation shows, I am loyal (resistant to change?) to my favorite brands and products!...See MoreLet’s talk about funeral homes!
Comments (47)My mother had purchased her interment site decades ago - in her hometown, where she hadn't lived for the decades since. She had also picked out a dress to be buried in, and had shown it to me several times in the years before her final illness. She was in a nursing home in my town, 115 miles away, with hospice. The nursing home (or hospice, I don't recall which) arranged for her remains to be picked up by a local mortuary after death was declared. I arranged the funeral with the funeral home in her hometown, that had been used by my family many times. They arranged to have the body transported to them, handled all of the paperwork (including obtaining the death certificate from my county), and placed the obit that I wrote in the local paper. 3 of my 4 siblings, my aunt and her best friend, and 2 of 5 my nieces came to the small service that we had in a parlor of the funeral home. There was no one else who knew or were friends with her (and I had no friends that I had remained in contact with) left in town. My niece's husband (they lived locally) arranged for the chaplain from his work to give a little homily and lead prayer; I found a musician to play 3-4 of her favorite hymns on guitar. Then all we went to the interment at the cemetery. One of my SILs arranged with someone she knew to prepare and serve a casual lunch in a facility at the cemetery for us. BTW, that was the only family member who did anything - the others never even offered - to arrange or help pay for it all. Mom didn't have any insurance benefit or funds left to help pay. ETA: I did all this really out of respect for my elderly aunt - that it pleased my sister and 2 of her daughters was nice but really not a consideration. My brothers wouldn't have minded either way, but I was glad that the oldest drove up from Tennessee - I hadn't seen him in many years, and probably never will again - I was 7 when he left home at the age of 18 and we were never close as adults. At the time it was rather a stretch for my finances. Comments (1)They have been around for 30 years or that is as far back as I remember seeing them! They are just decorative. The ones I have seen over the years are faux and require no care, other than trying to dust them. They have been out for a while, so I see how they might be making a comeback. Have to keep selling "new" stuff to the next generation of homeowners!...See More

My Mema always made Cathedral Cookies for me at Christmas. Funny because I’m usually not a big fan of marshmallows or chocolate, but I sure loved those cookies.

last yearOh my, I bake each season and haven even started yet for this year. Obviously for our family holiday and gifts for friends. Typically butter cookies, shortbread, thumbprint, date pinwheel, fudge, divinity, peppermint bark, checkmix and cheesecake.

last yearI never had the swedish dream cookies but I love swedish rosettes which seem to be gaining popularity again. I have a vintage set of irons so I really should make them one of these days soon.
Also, I am semi-hesitant and a little self conscious to share these holly cookies which are hardly gourmet lol.. but a nostalgic family favorite. The tiny teaberries are no longer made-- and I have what may be the last lb of them in existance in my pantry. They are basically marshmallow rice krispy treats-- but made with cornflakes.

ETA: I was drooling over the thread photos so I have to post this photo I found from an online christmas cookie compilation. It was captioned "Don't these cookies scream Christmas?". Lol, no not really.

last yearThis is my family's recipe for molasses cut-out cookies. Mom made dozens of them each Christmas, she and Dad frosted each one. Took them forever. Me, I like the cookie but don't care for the icing or sprinkles so I "engrave" mine instead. They aren't nearly as attractive as the wonderful treats already posted, but they taste great and make me smile:

Highly recommend. They are delish. Small, meant to be a treat with espresso, I can see why. Melt in your mouth with that snap of dark chocolate and heavy on the hazelnut.
