Removed popcorn ceiling without testing for asbestos - what can I do?

Mike Daily
last year

I recently moved into a house that was built in 1982 and had popcorn ceiling in most of the first floor. We hit the ground running doing lots of improvements to the house and one of the first things we did was have the popcorn ceiling removed. Originally I was told by the contractor that since it was built in 1982, it wouldn't have asbestos - but now after doing more research, I am realizing that it still could have... So to cut to the chase - it already happened, but what risks may there be now that I can mitigate? Is there any way I can test the house to see if there is any asbestos remaining from having the popcorn scraped down? How much should I worry about this? If possible, I may be able to find some of the popcorn ceiling in the dumpster and test it, but not sure - it may all be gone. Mainly I just want the peace of mind of knowing, but if there's some way I can test the house, and it does come up positive, I'd like to evaluate what options I have.
