so tired of this remodel...contemp. cabinet dilemma and choice
Comments (10)Thank you for the responses! I so much appreciate it! I have been so worried about this house. It really helps to hear your words of encouragement, especially about this house and location. I really took your responses to heart. I met with the architect today. I shared with him what you all said. We decided that I will stay with ikea for now. The countertop deal is too good to pass up. We decided on the grey abstrakt cabinets with white silestone. The floors are mottled light grey/white concrete. What do you all think of the colors? Alternatively, I can do white/white or white cabs/grey counters. This will let me put money towards doing the things that are going to require my imminent attn., namely new double paned glass. The good news is that my father/stepmo. came into town last night. They have high expectations for homes/etc. They saw the house today. I was so nervous about what they might think. They loved it and totally saw my vision for it. Dianalo: Thank you for your feedback. You are right in that I need to be prudent in my choices for this house. Thank you for grounding me! I have been shopping cl a lot-so far, I got a viking double oven and a ge monogram fridge. I dont cook so cant justify spending a lot on appliances I wont use much. abundantblessings: Thank you! I guess I will stay with ikea now. As I dont cook, I think the ikea will hold up for years. I agree that custom is a better route than hb, but I do believe I will wait for the right time. oldhouse1: Your house sounds lovely. I would love to see pics of it as you progress through the remodel. It is good to hear that you also plan to use ikea. lolog72: Thank you for the links. Those are beautiful kitchens! They are a real inspiration. kathylquiltz: I am not certain, but I think Leona Helmsey's house is in Paradise Valley. This house is on the south side of Camelback mtn....See MorePaint choice dilemma...Please Help!
Comments (11)I think that with such grand ceilings, and white tile, darker paint will enhance the lightness of the floor, and the house risks feeling not grounded enough. Which on the other hand can be interesting..if it is intentional. For example, I decided on medium-dark floor in my current home with very high ceilings, because I wanted to ground it, didn't want the feeling of a ballroom. But I could go with light flooring and it would still be fine, it would just give a totally different mood. There are designers and color specialists that do color consultations, sometimes even on internet. Maria Killiam's blog comes to mind. Laurel Bern's blog comes to mind. I'm sure there are many more. It's not exactly cheap, but it is just that-color consultation only. Also, I don't know about the paint stores, but couple designers I met in other stores were nothing short of amazing-able to help so much without even seeing the space. They drew the space as I tried to explain, and their renderings were better than anything I could ever draw, even though I knew the house, and they heard about it for the first time in their life.. It doesn't happen often I must say, but when it does-oh wow. You're in luck. So yes, definitely check with your local paint store..you might just meet somebody brilliant there, whose input will be priceless....See MoreExterior Paint Dilemma with Almond Vinyl Windows
Comments (23)I would love something like shoji white but I’m not sure how that would Look against the almond. I'll take working with almond over stark white windows any day - so much easier. Can tell you how I deal with them. "Almond" is not the same color brand to brand so we measure the color of the windows. We use a Spectro 1 Pro, but a more affordable Color Muse works too. Settings in the app have to be Illuminant D65, 2 degree observer. One of the windows in the app will give you the hue angle of the Almond color. Then it's just a matter of finding colors in the same hue angle range. If you do that, post back with the hue angle and I can post a list of colors that fit. A color like Shoji is definitely possible, just need to make sure it aligns - relates correctly - with the Almond....See MoreNeed help with my kitchen window choice/color dilemma!
Comments (20)It is sort of unclear to me exactly what kind of window you are considering ...but I do know that the window in the kitchen is the most important one in the house....I wouldn’t want one of those (little square)divided ones for sure...and I would look for an option that does not have a divider right in the middle of the view from the sink...couple of reasons...this is the only window you look out of ... from about 2’ away...often during the day...secondly it will be most obvious when it is dirty or water splattered...so easy access ...for in and out cleaning ...is essential....if necessary even widening the window to allow a solid center glass with two small side sliders...would be preferable......See Morecatlover Leo
