Range between long windows. Pictures?
Comments (13)Unfortunately I can't resize, since the house is brick. But circuspeanut -- that ledge idea is great. I wonder if we could work that into partially blocking the windows. Not only does it tie in (only question is when to stop -- what happens at the perpendicular wall) but makes how outlets are added a bit more obvious than in the other partially blocked window photos. They must be there somewhere to satisfy code if nothing else, perhaps running below the counters. Much to think about. If we go unfitted we would have tables and an almost proper hood (36 instead of 42). Picking up backsplash tile might also help in making it look less like an orphan bit stuck out there. Comments (8)One thing that really helps with visualization of to take a good clear picture of your house and use one of the paint programs to color in the parts you'd like to paint. Bronze would look nice for the windows but if you painted the trim to match I feel would blend in to the roof too much if in a similar color. I would suggest removing or seriously trimming back those arborvitae flanking the front door. Comments (12)A McMansion, huh? Didn't know people were still pursuing this architectural design with all that had been written about avoiding this style trap. The house is huge and hulking and is mostly roof/attic. McMansion is a slang term that describes a large, often opulent or ostentatious, mass- produced house. The name carries a somewhat critical connotation because McMansions lack architectural uniqueness, class, or style. You keep referring to gray...................nothing in your current palette is gray. If they look gray to you, then there are online color blindness tests you can take to determine if you are seeing colors correctly. What's with the large brick corbels at the base of all the gables? Just another applied detail with no design basis. . Do you think you understand exactly how much roof you have on your home as currently designed??????? And how much that roof is costing you?? Comments (4)" Could I have narrow windows installed easily between the existing studs? " Can they be installed, yes. Easily, depends on your definition of easily. Siding, insulation and sheathing comes off for the exterior. Interior finishes all come off. Wall gets reframed with studs doubled up most likely, sill with cripple studs, header installed. Install windows, reinstall sheathing, siding, etc. Interior finishes reinstalled and your good to go. WAG, $5,000 -$6000 plus the windows and you will be all set....See MoreLyn Nielson
