Thanks, joaniepoanie. I'll check out the knobs and pulls website. I agree many buyers wouldn't know the difference and some would probably plan on remodeling the kitchen anyway. I would prefer to paint the cabinets the same antique white that we've used on all the trim and doors throughout the house. The reason I'm considering a different color is because of my granite counters. Another poster mentioned they appear to have a pinkish undertone and the yellowish antique white might make them appear more pink. I wouldn't want that! Edgecomb Gray looks like a warm neutral with a touch of red, and I thought this might tone down the counters. numbersjunkie, do you mean counter height = same as the rest of the kitchen counters? I would like to go a little above the rest of the kitchen counters because I would not want to see dishes or any kitchen mess while in the dining room. Right now our kitchen counters are 36 3/4" and the end eating counter is 43" high. We are keeping much of the layout but now is the time to make changes since all cabinets and counters will be replaced. Any suggestions?

If your island is normal counter height ie like the rest of your counters (generally 36" high) and not raised you need the counter height stools. If they are raised to a bar height then the bar height is used.

I've never had barstools ruin the wood floors....add felt pads to the bottom of the stool legs and you shouldn't have a problem. If you want to do the tile, make sure it spans enough floor space (ex: since a typical barstool is about 16 inches deep, allow at least 36 inches of tile to pull the stool out).
