Say a Little Prayer for Bob ...
Comments (13)Thanks everyone! I'm sure he will do well with all your prayers. He is still waiting to hear from his doctor on the results of the CAT scan. I'm just hoping we can be moved into our new apartment before he has his surgery so there isn't the stress of handling the move on my own. Although it might be worth it to get away from the elephants living upstairs from me. Since we have lived here, we have had about 4 different tenants upstairs from us. One was a bigger guy and we would hear him walk around every so often. There must be a floor board that is exceptionally squeaky in the bedroom and living room. But the elephants upstairs from us now never sit or sleep! I don't think they work either. They march around in the bedroom until 3:00 a.m. It sure will be nice to get away from them. I really need to start packing...yuck! Thanks again for all the well wishes, you guys are the greatest!...See Moreto Bob in Albany - let's talks vanda
Comments (10)Hi Sue, I went to your home page and saw your were from Canada. I wanted to e-mail you direct but I see you don't have your e-mail posted there. In any case I bought 3 vandas from Angel Street Orchids. Here is there home page: http://www.angelstreetorchids.com/ I bought Ascda. Blue Tahourdin 'Bronze Grape' which to my surprised arrived in spike. I also purchased Ascda. Motes Hot Chestnut 'Mary' HCC/AOS and a Vanda (Med Laughlin x Agatha Motes) 'Maui Spots' They were very cheap and of nice size and quality. I grow them in an attached green house. I grow mostly paphs. but have the vandas on the glass side where the door is. Picture a free standing green house without one of the small ends. That would be the side that attached to my house. It is not a lean two type. I heat it in the winter in the day to 68 and down to around 60 F at night. They are mostly bare root and get watered every day. I can tell you from experience the Ascda. Princess Mikasa's are great ones to grow. I have one pink one and a couple of the blue ones (one clone and one none clone). They bloom often for me. Especially once they get some size to them. My pink one and dark blue one are currently in bloom. I go to South Carolina in the spring and fall via car, so always try to check out Lowes for those bag vanda orchids. They are small but will grow in time. I even tried a couple of flasks of vandas about 6 years ago. Many died and I wonder if I'll live long enough to see any of them bloom. (I hope too :-) as I'm not ready to kick the bucket for many years. Click on Bob8 and it will bring you to my home page and then click send and e-mail. Then we can talk off of this site if you prefer. Always will to talk orchids and try to help. Bob in Albany, N.Y....See MoreCoenosium Gardens (Bob Fincham) Farewell Event
Comments (18)It's very true. But wiser folk than I have opined that gardens seldom outlive their makers. Some special ones do; Sissinghurst, Stourhead, etc. But most don't. I do believe that the woody plants, especially the trees, have the best chance of enduring. If I disappeared tomorrow and nobody did anything but water for 5-10 years, it would still mostly be ok....See MoreBob, help. Fig tree advice
Comments (36)Jan, I have seen that fig for sale at some point and almost bought one! I had no idea they even grew any in the ground up there, how do you like that? Don't you just love figs!!?? By the way Brian is back..Yahoo. I can't believe we all love the same plants, lol. Bob has quite a success with many plants. Thank God we have him too and others. Almost time to bring the plants into the greenhouse. Do you start your dormant stuff early by sticking them into the greenhouse? Do you have a recent pic of it? I love it Hugs Thank you for letting me know))) Bob, Jan asked some good questions. Can't wait to see what you have to say. I was also wondering why you pick them off instead of letting a frost kill them and then bringing them inside? Is it to get them to sleep earlier than a frost? Do the leaves try ad grow back even when you bring them in? And do you pinch them off even if winter if some decide to not stay so dormant? Thank you) Howard, cute little trees. I am sure they will grow big! Mike...See MoreUser
