So here’s a general question about tile, because we are also considering going with a white subway tile (which would either have a bevel edge or that hand glazed bumpy look). Other than appearance, is there a difference between high end tile and what you get at Home Depot, etc? Again, the difference in appearance is obvious, but are there any quality or durability differences?

I agree with Bees. The best decor is a clean and clear countertop, ready for actual use. The best decoration in my mind would be an edible spread of cheese, crackers and accoutrements! Oh, that gives me another idea, how about a clear glass fruit bowl. We have one in our dining room and keep it filled with fruit we actually eat over time and then refill.

If you want to match, you take a finished cabinet door and have the wall paint matched to it. With completely different chemistry makeups, you’re trying to demand that artist’s tempera paint match automotive paint. It never will, and was not designed to ever match. Conversion varnish has a completely different base and uses completely different tints than does house paint. Color matching always has the paint spectrometer matched to the object. You take the cabinet door to the paint store, after the cabinets are coated. Even then, texture and different chemistry will have it be slightly different. Wall paint matching fabric or leather will never be a perfect match. Texture plays a big part in color perception as well. A satin finish in “the same” color as a gloss finish will always look like a different color shade. Give up on 100%. Get to 95% by custom matching the paint to the cabinet.
