Desperately seeking backsplash help for light granite counter!
Comments (18)You ALL are totally awesome for helping (sorry if I sound like a teenager!) Great ideas and advice. You all are so right about the paint color--I can see it now. Thanks for taking the time to show me examples! (The existing paint is actually more of a gold- but looks yellow in certain spots and colors). I love those examples of the darker red backsplashes, boxerpups, with cabinets similar in color to mine. Red wouldn't match anything in my house, (I know you weren't suggesting that)but maybe a burgandy or maroon or rust would! Noobee- I can't get over how that darker backsplash you did (in the cut and paste you did over my kitchen photo) makes the cabinets and granite pop and ties it all together. I love it! I think that seems to be heading in the right direction--though perhaps the exact colors and pattern need tweaking. I love the look! Though there isn't any actual brown in the granite, some of the garnet does appear brown-here and there. Do you think I'd need to have gray in the backsplash to tie in with the granite if I went darker, with mixed colors, like that? Also, Noobee, how DID you do that cut and paste-is that a paint program that comes with windows or adobe photoshop by any chance? I'd love to try and play with that myself. I have been visiting a few tile shops, and even the salespeople there have been having a hard time finding the right solution for me. One lady who was working with me is even a trained interior designer. She was thinking darker would work, too, but was having a hard time finding just the right tile. So I really appreciate your suggestions....See Morebacksplash for colonial cream granite countertop
Comments (9)Thank you all so much for your quick responses!!! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures yet since we are still under construction. As far as some of the questions...I would say we are more contemporary and elegant. We are open to all tile material, but probably lean more towards ceramic and glass. The walls in the kitchen are Nugget by Benjamin Moore. The Island cabinets are Cinnamon Glaze and the floor is Brazilian Tigerwood. The sink, faucet, pot filler and appliances are stainless. Another question, we are undecided about the cabinet hardware. Is it ok to do Antique Bronze hardware with stainless faucets/appliances and satin nickel mountings for pendant lights?...See MoreWhat backsplash with cream cabinet/antique brown granite?
Comments (8)oohh, I love your kitchens! Thank you for sharing:) Remodelfa, the samples I carried home were all tumbled cream stone with pink undertones...I realized after looking here that that's probably contributing to the problem: the shiny dark granite is not working with the tumbled stone. I think I need to look at the polished tiles, or the crackled tiles. Lissa's kitchen is beautiful; her colours are very similar to mine. LOL, Rhome - when I was envisioning my kitchen last winter, I always thought of baked goodies when I thought of the colours:cream with chocolate frosting, chocolate with vanilla frosting (for the island)! Weedyacres - couldn't find "matte" subway tiles like yours but this is what I initially had in mind. Jeannie kitchen - beautiful insert tile (and I'm loving your stove) Thank you to everyone who kindly responded:)...See MoreWill Dallas White Granite & carrara marble Backsplash work here?
Comments (45)You could, but it's a checkerboard for lack of a better word... I don't see it in your space at all. Your kitchen floor/cabinets are warm, your counter is cool even though beautiful. You don't need grout, "jumping" out from the tile.... "popping" out from the tile color. Too busy in my opinion for what I think you want. Herringbone in that size would take a TON of cuts and you would need a person to install that is STELLAR and well versed in doing herringbone with such a large tile. You may want to look for, "herringbone" there is a lot at tile bar. Not going to be as large in scale though. Given the width of the space between your counters and cupboards that size would be a ton of waste going with 12" even if you found a stellar well versed tile person. If you lean herringbone you might look at their samples at tile bar or even a chevron which is not to terribly different. Not just tile bar, but fire clay is another site or Zanger. This is from the Zanger website... it's chevron. Remember, your cupboards and floors are warm and you chose a cool tone counter. I don't know their sample program at Zanger as well. http://www.walkerzanger.com/collections/products.php?view=style&mat=Zen&coll=Shift...See MoreHALLETT & Co.
