Road Trip - Getty Malibu (extremely photo heavy)
Comments (14)Woody, about being rich enough, Getty's choice to make a re-creation of an ancient villa was, in architectural circles, thought to be quite cheesy and not the best use of all his dough. I'll leave such debates to the experts. Mitch even mentioned the crowd he runs with disdains the Getty as an elite "white man's" enthusiasm, not representative of other cultures, etc. If a guilty pleasure, so be it... PM, the Italian cypress is often planted near cemetaries and holy sites in Italy, which is in large part due to their nondisruptive root systems. Re the photos, when I sharpened the image through Picassa, the water drops came into focus. I like these simple fountains too, that could easily reside at a private residence. (And Mitch is a tad over 6 feet!) Kathy, it was a beautiful day. I don't get out to Malibu much anymore, since the drive through the westside and Santa Monica is always so jammed, and PCH backs up. But the drive was easy, no traffic, the ocean was full of surfers bobbing in the waves. Back in high school, I drove out to Malibu quite often with my buddies (occasionally during weekdays! ahem...)...See MoreHas anyone ever done a trip to Gettysburg?
Comments (14)Here's what my nephew/Gettysburg expert recommended (he's very into Gettysburg ghosts, so a lot of his recommendations are haunted :-) The Cashtown Inn. They can get lunch or dinner there (might need reservations that weekend) or they don't mind people stopping in just to look around. If they don't want to take a guided tour (they are very good), they can instead get a tour CD for their vehicle from the visitors center. The new visitors center/museum is only a year old and something they should definitely check out (along with the newly renovated Cyclorama). The Jenny Wade house is an interesting place to take a tour of and if they're interested take the ghost tour later at night. The Farnsworth House Inn has a great bookstore. Sachs Bridge is also a must see. It's easy to get to but they may have to ask for directions as it's a couple miles away from the battlefields. Nice place for a picnic....See MoreHow reliable do you find Trip Advisor.com and other site reviews?
Comments (9)What everyone [above] said! :) I do reviews when I can and answer questions on the forums. I try to be as honest as possible, but it is MY opinion. I may be happiest eating at diners and you want 4* food. I myself read multiple reviews when planning and get a composite picture. If the person who complained is dead wrong, I will come back and write "I never saw any mice in my room and I kept cheese there!" If there are 38 recent reviews I don't add one. If there are no recent ones, or only a few comprised of little info, I will try to flesh out the picture, so to speak. Some write how much fun they had but no details. I try to include "many steps", or "good access for mobility impaired". With the forums, I don't bother if the person has had 10 different suggestions already what-to-do-with-one-free-day etc. (sort of like on here...LOL!) The thing that bothers me most is too many self-proclaimed experts that try to steer people in the same directions. It's like they are waiting there to pounce! I will chime in to offer a different option no one mentioned. I really do TRY to help people, but take it all with a grain of salt just the same. :) Oh, and I use a different name on there. ;)...See MorePhotos from before and after my trip
Comments (19)Debra: You have to allow messages in your settings. Go to your Profile, Advanced Settings and scroll to the bottom of the page and change "someone messages me" from Never to Everytime from the drop down list. I have that turned on for me. Once you have it set up to allow messages, you can send email via Houzz. You can message me by clicking on my name and you will see Messages under the cover photo. Hope this helps....See Morenicole___
