Buying a suite of appliances from one brand is almost always a bad deal and no retailer can possible sell every brand available in the US. Induction is not amazingly superior to gas. Although induction is superior to typical sealed gas burners induction is not superior to commercial type open gas burners. There are pros and cons to each. KitchenAid induction is in fact inferior to American Range and Capital Culinarian range tops. Many induction cooktops produce a buzz noise and KA is in fact notorious for it. The younger you are the more likely you are to hear it and some people refer to KA induction as teenager repellant. LOL Both AR and CC have a higher high plus you can use the multiple power burners all day long. In the KA you can only use the single power hob for a time limited and it pulls electricity from other hobs so you can't use all induction hobs at maximum rated KW at the same time. Induction is in theory more even in heat distribution but in reality undetected. KA has a lower low but not really useable below what is provided by dedicated simmer or small pot burner in the CC and AR burners. When induction breaks it can't be used until replaced with specific part or assembly. Gas burners can only have two things that break; generic spark modules or igniters, and you don't need them because you can light with a match or lighter. Those commercial burners will give 50 years service life while the induction will be in the landfill with no longer made antique parts. No appliance company makes the best appliance in every category. KA's main competitor is GE Profile. Profile makes better ovens while KA ovens have a reputation for dying after self-clean cycle. KA makes the best American type dishwasher while GE dishwashers suck. Miele makes even better dishwashers. They clean better, have fewer problems and use less water and electricity. The one advantage of some KA dishwashers is they can dry plastics better. KA refrigerators have shown to be more reliable than GE but less reliable than Samung. It is better to buy the best appliance in each category and shop for best price than to buy a suite of some good, mediocre, and bad appliances. Even if you get a rebate and matching handles.

@joepiccaso53 You're having this problem in both ovens? What do you define as an "eternity" to preheat? Have you noticed any performance differences trying the different heating modes separately? Only one element per oven coming on at a time and the control cycling between them is completely normal operation - your circuit doesn't have the capacity to run all the elements for both ovens at the same time. I just checked the parts list, your oven has 3 safety thermostats - one for each oven, and a third (higher temperature one) that shuts off both ovens. If a thermostat were the problem were the problem none of the elements in the applicable oven(s) would heat. The thermostats break one of the 220 lines, correct, but at that point 120 will only be supplied to the parts that run on 120V ie. control board, lights, etc. The 220V elements could not heat with the thermostat open because they would no longer be part of a complete circuit! And if they did still heat, the concept of a safety thermostat would be rather pointless, no? Long preheat usually indicates one of the elements in a given oven is not heating, which isn't a thermostat problem. I would be looking for bad connections and failed elements. Having this problem in both ovens would be coincidental, but I've seen weirder things.

I have a 30" wall oven (Miele). I regularly preheat for 30 minutes. Years ago, before I bought the oven, I was told to expect that. The dinger goes off before 30 minutes. But the oven will not be fully and evenly heated before that. With one of those bigger range ovens I would expect 30 minutes minimum no matter what anyone says. One thing about the Miele that is not well known and that mutes the entire preheat argument. Their auto roast setting starts in a cold oven and requires no preheating. But the food is done in the same amount of time because the top and bottom elements are used and the oven algorithm compensates. I use this setting so often I would buy the oven again just to have it.

UPDATE...I emailed American Range again in February, 2018 and got no response, as usual. I gathered up all of my previous emails to them since 2013, and sent another email in March. Finally, a response! They mailed me a part! But since neither the gas or the electric oven is working correctly, I don't know whether the part is for the electric or the gas oven. Another email sent. I have not heard back yet. However it doesn't matter how many parts they send because I can't lift a 630 lb wall oven. I still have not found a repair company that will repair it. So, I am keeping the American Range thread alive so others will know about the problems. The gas oven will only heat up to 375, but that is when I have the temp set to 425. My natural gas bill is high because it takes almost 2 hours to reach 375.
