How to Identify China Cabinet?
Comments (6)I have its sibling!!!!! It's a standard kitchen cabinet tarted up with some curvy Art Noveau-ish rounded moldings on the doors to be trendy and stylish. Mine is oak, with the same moldings on the doors and bottom, same rosette at the lock, but mine has two rows of drawers (two small, one full width) between the doors. Your door pulls are not original. Mine had no pulls and no marks where a pull would have been. They may have had "push-open" catches. Mine also has old glass in it - the slightly wavery stuff with the tiny occasional stretched-out bubbles. That is NOT hand blown, it's the kind of mass-produced glass they made by pulling a sheet of glass up out of a cauldron of molten glass. Your cabinet doesn't look like oak - it could be walnut, poplar, butternut, or any of the other common wood species. Mine was identified by the seller, a knowledgeable dealer, as from 1900-1910 - apparently the way the panels of the doors are rounded had a short life because of the machinery it took to make it, and because the Art Noveau trend died out. I forget what I paid for mine, but it's a well-made vintage cabinet with rather nice wood. Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreTraditional or ? Help with identifying the style
Comments (9)I have a hard time with labels. I take those tests to see what my style is and it is different every time. Even 4 minutes after the first time I took the test. I look at your beautiful hardware and feel that to put a lable on them ruins it. It does not matter the style. They are gorgeous. Do you love them? I myself have trouble with choosing what style I am. The entire label thing, is just confusing for me. Am I traditional because I love my favorite antique nesting tables? Or am I rococco because I love this funky chair? Maybe I am country because I live in the country. No it must be urban because I love my contempoary martini glasses. Wait, maybe that is Contemporary? Or Could I be Old World? Because I have this old world armoire from 1890 inherited from my husbands great great grandfather. Yes, I love it. Maybe Early American, British Colonial, Indian, or could I be Mission, Tropical, Paris chic, Dubai urban, Chinese red, Swedish blue.... What about my area rug;s. Classic? Romantic? Shabby Chic? or Cottage? Or maybe I am this pathetic title called Transitional which really means inbetween. Okay, Okay, I got it. I am updated Bradybunch. This refers to dog hair mixed with teen boy smell, a splash of spilled pixi nai;l polish color and shabby chic toys all over. ~Hee Hee sorry I am not help at all on the hardware. My answer is pick the one you love the most. And if you are having trouble chose them both. Change them in 6 months to give yourself a little pick me up. I believe that a label is confining. Do what you love and make your own label. If I have to choose it is the first one. Ornate but oh so lovely. ~boxer...See MoreHow did you decide where to put knobs and pulls?
Comments (16)Pinktoes, My widest drawer is 30" wide on the drawer beneath the combo wall oven, it only has a single pull centered according to the rules above. Although at the end of the kitchen I have a 44" wide recycling drawer with six bins inside. For that since it is faced with two separate doors, it got two pulls. But to tell the truth I still only pull on one of them to open it. I think it is purely an aesthetics issue. I think that if you need to have two pulls on a drawer and need to pull evenly on both of them to avoid racking the drawer or bending the drawer slides, especially on newly constructed cabinets, then you need to find a less crappy cabinet maker. With that said, I agree that the handle layout shown above by gardenergwen is the right decision for that bank of cabinets....See MorePlease Help Identify This Cabinet Handle
Comments (2)These look very similar to my cabinet handles. I'm in Canada and the company that makes the handle is Richelieu. We purchase ours at Rona, but can be purchased directly from the company's website. We bought the longer size ( I am pretty sure they are longer than the size shown in the link I've provided, but I'm not at home so I cannot measure) for our cabinets and love them. There's lots of room for your hand to fit in without rubbing on the cabinet face, and it feels really nice when you grip it. https://www.richelieu.com/ca/en/category/decorative-hardware/cabinet-hardware-pulls-knobs/pulls/transitional-metal-pull-3753/1178581?nf_1010278=%281208305%29&q=1...See Moretsflygirl
