Kitchen Quartz Choice - Deciding between these two

Kitchen Remodel. Have any of you used LG Quartz “Sonata” in your kitchens? We’re also considering Corian’s Calacutta Villa. Opinions on either? Our cabinets are white and flooring is dark brown. Backsplash will be the quartz we choose for countertop. Thank you!

I prefer the second. It looks like tasty swirls. (The first one looks like faux stone and I'm not a fan.)

One might look better in your kitchen of course--get that one! :)

Two young children and cats will equal abrasions and dents and it will not take long. the warranties should not be a deciding factor in my opinion. If you are afraid of seeing wear then honestly hardwood will not be a great choice. In an active household, you will see the wear and disruption to the surface and it will be fast no matter what wood you choose. You must accept that thought process as many people get really surprised and think they bought bad wood. Hardwood shows wear and it shows it quickly.

I'm sorry I can't select which tile would be better for you based on your pictures, but I can tell you about my own experience when we selected tiles for our master bath. Granted, they were builder's grade ceramic so the quality wasn't there, but one was called "white" and the other "beige". The woman at the design center said go with the white since our sinks, toilet and tub were white so we did. Well, the "white" tiles also had pinkish undertones, probably moreso than your tile. And when the room was completed, they gave a strong pink cast to the entire room. So, try to look at the floor in all lighting situations especially when natural light hits it. Whatever undertones there are will be amplified when the entire floor is covered with it. Had I given it more thought, I definitely would've gone with the "beige" tile.

Yeah, so are we...Then again we were fairly green during the building process (almost wish this was our SECOND custom build, not our first) and the flooring guy seems like he goes with a set few things and sticks with them. We probably should have pushed harder with the tile or at least tried to pick counter and cabinet first THEN tile. It certainly seems like this tile has put us in a really weird spot as far as the counter goes. We absolutely love quartz, just can't seem to find a price that works for us. Obviously Ikea's $40 price would be absolutely dream come true, but the big boxes like Lowes and Home Depot, even on sale, are coming in around 60 or 70 with theirs, which puts us quite a bit over on cost. We noticed the gold in the photos as well...Though some who have seen it it person like the way the gray piece mixes with the cabinet color and feel it does pick up a little of the floor as well. Hoping maybe the grey might be our winner though I do worry about coordinating backsplash and paint if we go that route. Ugh.

"...The kitchen is on the back corner of our house and is a new build..." Is the entire house a new build or just the Kitchen? (It says "Existing Family Room", so I assume this is an addition, not a whole-house new build.) Assuming it's just the Kitchen, where exactly is the "new build" vs the existing footprint? How flexible are you? ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Some things to keep in mind: Aisles around the table...You will need to devote quite a bit of space to provide sufficient aisle space around the table. The presence of the door on the far right and the "desk" area will be an issue b/c you really need at least 54" b/w the table and the "desk" to allow someone to be one or the other and still get by. 60" would be better b/c you could potentially have seating at both. If that door will seldom be used, 54" will be fine. However, if that will be your only access to a backyard or deck (and it looks like it is), plan for it to be very busy when your children are playing as well as when you have company/parties and the outside is included (grilling, etc.). You will probably only need for 48" b/w the door and the table. I think you can get away with no more than 48" b/c the door is offset on the wall and the table will only overlap the door a little - it's not fully blocking the door - assuming the side that opens is on the right, not the left. If it's on the left, then you may need more b/c now the table will be fully blocking the door. What do you need? When there's no traffic behind the seats, at least 33" to squeeze by, 44" to walk by/pass behind to get to other seats. When there is traffic, at least 48" if there are no counters, etc., behind the seats With both counters/appliances and traffic and seating at only one location, 51" to squeeze by when someone is seated, 54" to 60" to walk by. If seating at both locations, then 60" to 72". 60" will work, but 72" is better. Possible fixes: (1) Recommended: Put in a banquette instead of a table. They take up less room b/c you don't have to plan for traffic behind the seats. -or- (2) Eliminate the desk and move the door to the top wall. This way, you won't be trying to fit so much in that small space (small when you consider you want a table + counter/desk + door in that space). -or- (3) Turn the table - but then it would reduce the amount of space you have for the kitchen work area. -or- (4) If this is a new house or you are modifying the FR, consider moving the door to the Family Room

Cabinets are "white" .........a million versions of white exist

Floors are "dark brown"......Tile? Hardwood? LVP?

Okay, now:

Remodel meaning what? Show the existing kitchen.

Show the plan, and any changes

It's just a top change?

Anything moving? Should something move? New appliances yes/no? It's refresh, it's gut and brand new?

You haven't enough info, and nobody can say which top or if either work well with your cabinet white.

You want a simple answer to a simple question, but........there isn't one.

You don't select ANY top online. You take your cabinet white , sample or drawer face to the stone shop. You look at a full slab. Or you get a large sample - and take it home.

Is there a better way? Nope. Unless you favor major disappointment at the finish line: )

Cabinets are SW Pure White.

Nobody favors disappointment. That IS the point. You unscrew a drawer face and take it to the stone. What anyone else has used in their kitchen, in their lighting and exposure is usually irrelevant to whatever another homeowner may have.

We'll assume the "remodel" is simply a change of tops from granite to quartz. You're showing one view....can't really comment or advise, beyond what is seen. Test in person..........and then you can "relax" that you are happy with selection and all other details such as edge, splash etc.....clarified at template with your fabricator in writing.

If cook top is not changing? Make very certain you can avoid scorch issues with quartz. Yes, it CAN scorch. It is resin.

Not only take a drawer front to the stone, if it is an inside facility, see if they have a sample you can take home or outside to compare. I had one store open large garage doors to add as much natural light as possible. Fluorescent lighting casts a blueish greenish light. Have you considered quartzite, a natural material that can be sealed? Mine has held up beautifully and is beautiful.

I have to agree with Jan this is a problem here oftenwe get a question that honestly can't be answered without back story and pictures. IMO quartz is a poor idea for counters in a kitchen You really should not use it behind a range . I would never suggest quartz to a client when there are so many beautiful real stones . It looks like you have real now I would change the backspalsh and keep the counters they work well with your floor and the cabinet color

You haven’t said if the current backsplash is staying or getting removed and replaced. You’ve gotten the best advice already - take a drawer and door off and drive it to the actual slab you may be using in your home. Remember that doors are vertical and stone installation is horizontal. Unfortunately, most slabs are stored vertically in the stone yards. Do your best to asses how the slabs look with your door color.

If you are keeping your backsplash, bring one tile (if you have it) or take several photos, including a close close-up. If you’re changing the tile, ignore that last sentence. After the countertop, and any updated lighting are installed, you choose a tile for a backsplash.

Be open to not using either of your initial choices. They may make your doors look yellowed and drab. Or just not work. And you may fall in love with something else.

I painted my cabinets painted SW Pure white and did Viatra clarino (its warmer white/nutmeg/gray veining) with brick floors. I think you would like the Sopano. I don't know if the quartz can go behind your stove. When I got my counters it had some instructions about heat/chemicals. So check before you install. Enjoy your updates and ignore the negatives.

Your pretty cabinets match the woodwork in the next room? ❤

You really need to bring samples home. Whites and off whites are so tricky. This is a large enough expense that a proper shop will not be surprised if you want a sample and should encourage it. And then, after deciding, compare the sample to the ACTUAL slab that will be used because sometimes they vary.
