suggestions needed for throw pillows

Hi I have a Moroccan rug. Looking for suggestions for throw pillows.

Is there such a thing as too many Kilim and textured pillows? No.

I would get covers for the ones matching the sofa fabric, and play off the rust and turquoise you have, and the red of the rug, adding pattern, more colors and texture and additional pillows that compliment the rug. Get different sizes and shapes for an eclectic look.

Will post another picture soon. The walls are being repainted accessible beige tomorrow and the carpet is a neutral frieze called milk and cookies. I'd say right now we have autumn colors in the great room (between art work and sofas). The house is going on market in the next month or two. We had a consult with a stager who was recommended by a friend, not our realtor, which was a mistake. The "stager" was really more of a designer, and tends to favor the "Pinterest threw up in my house" style. The realtors think the furniture is fine, the stager thinks we need to get rid of it and rent hers, but I think throw pillows could help lighten things up.

I love a bright, clear accent color for pillows and lamps. You could do a teal, a yellow, a royal blue, a grassy green. I love your new ottoman! Love that it's taller than you often see, so that you can easily use it as a table. (I have a tall coffee table that I find myself putting my feet up on -- am trying to break myself of that habit since I don't want to hurt the wood finish, but it's hard!) Anyway, I can envision at least one Jacobean print in your room ... These are from Wayfair. Oh, and it's impossible in my house to take a picture that doesn't have a cat in it. They like to think that THEY are the only decor we should be interested in.

Thank you Flo. My past rug was larger, maybe a 9x12, so the room can handle it. I do have the 8x10 size ordered...and will give that a try as well. Just to be sure we are on the same page.....when you say 'slide it under long side about 4"', are you referring to the long side of sectional as the section WITHOUT the teal pillows on it or the other section? Thanks again.

this has been a rabbit hole i visit from time to time and have never acted on still.

Those from Society 6 look so good (and I mean look like they are excellent buys.)

Now I'm reminded that I need to spend time again on there looking at pillows.

I do think you need more bold color for the pillows to stand up to the rug.

Group your pillows instead of spreading them out over the sofa and prop them up instead of lying down (feather inserts are the best). Get some Kilim pillows and combine them with dark coloured ones and some of your white ones.

That's good advice on arranging pillows. As far as a rug with strong pattern and color, I think it could go either way.

In a neutral room the rug would be a vibrant way to ground the space but strong accent pillows bring the rug up into the 'living' space of the room visually and physically.

It's why I included both concepts in my suggestions. Personal choice. The idea is to have fun...isn't that what decor is about?

The photo from the OP shows that middle-of-the-road does not work. And I personally hate pillows that match the fabric of the seating. Get covers!

There is a concept of value contrast with colors- and also something like clear vs muddy or soft colors. the rug to me looks high- contrast and also more vino, clear colors rather than softened colors. So I would be looking for pillows covers that echo those features. It doesn’t mean the entire pillow or print has to be high contrast, deep and clear, because there could be some prints that include softer or more muted colors , as long as there are some parts or bits in the print or trim that reference the rug, some of the strong red, blue, black, or white. So if you actually wanted to tone down the rest of decor you might look for that type of combination specifically.
