Which supplemental Medicare plan do you have?
Comments (29)Just thought I would report back that I looked into Bankers Fidelity and for me it is $205 a month for Plan F and $141 for Plan G. Plan F is an "issue age plan" and G is an "obtained age plan". I called the company and a very annoying local insurance agent called me back. Actually she seemed to know her stuff but her manner was annoying. I think AARP is going to be hard to beat. I downloaded and printed a booklet called Choosing a Medigap Policy and it is very helpful. It makes things clear and has great advice about what to ask an insurance agent if you choose to buy from one. It's on the medicare.gov site. Maybe my research will help the next person and it certainly helps me to bounce these questions off all of you!...See MoreAnd it's time to talk about Medicare supplemental insurance again.
Comments (13)Gosh, I hate this whole procedure. I'm also seeing that medicare supplements are hugely more expensive for 2016. We've had Plan F high deductible in 2014 and 2015, paying under $100/month. Looks like more than DOUBLE for the same coverage next year -- and very little difference in premiums between high deductible and the comprehensive straight Plan F. I'm wondering if we will even GET a supplemental plan next year. I have yet to meet the deductible ($2800) after my hospital stay for pneumonia. (Medicare paid almost everything.) I'd have been better off not paying premiums! We have to do Part D (drug plan). Fun and games running the numbers of who will charge you less for any maintenance meds -- two for DH and one for me (Adviar, at $300/mo. retail). This is a cockamamie system we have in the US....See MoreHelp With Medicare Supplement Choices
Comments (29)It pays to keep pushing. Today, after being told it was impossible, I successfully enrolled in a BCBS of Illinois Standard Plan F Medicare Supplement. When documentation arrives I will cancel my prior policy. My DH's health benefits company told me I couldn't cancel my BCBS Plan F-HD and get this no-deductible Plan F without underwriting. It turned out that *they* wouldn't do it. (Supposedly the benefits company isn't allowed by BCBS to arrange this. I have my doubts about that, but it should no longer concern me. We will use the health benefits stipend differently.) I would have given up had I not gotten (overnight!) email help from SHIP-Illinois. They confirmed that BCBS-Illinois guarantees coverage to policy holders changing plans, *without requiring* new underwriting. This will save me only $280 a year, but I will no longer have to parse medical bills to be sure I'm being charged correctly. What Medicare doesn't pay, my policy will pay. Let them challenge any incorrect billing! I owe thanks to everyone on the KT -- especially sushipup! and C Marlin -- for aiding my quest....See MoreSpeaking of Medicare Advantage plans
Comments (9)We now have an Advantage plan as part of the benefit from the University retirement plan. Originally years ago it was just BCBS only no Advantage component. then after a number of years it became only United Health Care and then we had Medicare as primary with the UHC as supplement. Then Advantage came and still we had UHC. Now we still have Advantage but with Humana. ALL of these programs did/ do in home assessment annually. Originally we went along with it as they offered gift cards if you let them come and do assessment and teaching. We stopped all of these the past couple years . We take no meds and have no health issues ” knock on wood ” at 70 and 74. I wondered why they called and called trying to persuade us to let them come!!! I finally blocked the number after saying quite firmly NO! We are very happy with our coverage and the price due to the University backing is extremely inexpensive. When we have needed anything it has always covered virtually every penny and never any hesitation with any of the three companies. In fact the Silver Sneakers pays $720 a year alone for our gyms. I am not surprised that there is something selfserving in their home visits. Everyone is out for every dime. c...See MoreOakley
