I've enjoyed this thread so much. (Well, except for all those 'annoying' football comments. I mean really, let's get the over hyped Super Bowl out of the way so we can get on to the real sport...BASEBALL! Go Rangers! lol Auntjen, we are neighbors as I, too, live in the same county as Jerry World.) ahem...back to decorating. I'm a new real estate agent and one of my fascinations is seeing the inside of people's homes. I held an open house this weekend at a charming home. Talk about beautifully decorated! I so wish I could have taken photos just to show you guys the decor. (The RE photos don't show the decor like I'd like to show y'all.) After two hours of 'living' in the home, I was ready to go back to my more rumpled and comfortable home. lol I know the owners have 'staged' the home to be very, very nice looking and they are getting the right kinds of comments. I just know that for me and mine...we go for that 'creative' look. lol My goal, an ongoing, ever-ellusive goal, is to create a warm, inviting, and comfortable place to live that still delights my eye and artistic sense. That's possible, not perfect...and when it comes together, it is PERFECT. ;0)

I don't rule out specific colors or shades altogether, but there are colors that I would never use on certain materials, if that makes sense. Some materials have colors that are naturally associated with the material and that's fine. So I would have a terra cotta floor or tile roof in the natural color, but I would think a bathroom painted in terra cotta semi-gloss would be awful. I would have a black leather sofa or black walls even, but I would probably not want black bathroom fixtures. I like cherry and mahogany furniture, but I really dislike the red-burgundy tone of a very popular prefinished floor in new construction here. I would probably buy a beige rug, but I really dislike the beige porcelain variegated tile that is ubiquitous in bathrooms here.

This pair of fantastic Milo Baughman lounge chairs from chairish. I have a single of the same chair that I picked up years ago for cheap ($350) and our new house was crying out for a pair. I've been looking for years but didn't want to pay the newly inflated prices of recent years as mid mo has gotten so hot. This pair was reasonably priced so I decided to get both and paid $1500. They were sold with a vile red 90s cheap fabric so I was planning on new fabric, but when I got them home and tore off the fabric, I got to the fantastic original mustard velvet and original Thayer coggin tags. Which was a total and welcome surprise. This color works so well in our mid century home. Unfortunately the velvet is in bad condition.... so I'll still be refinishing. Still a good deal as restoration hardware has just reissued a bunch of almost the same style baughman chairs for about $4000 each. But I love a good refinishing project:)
